hey all, i have the stock tires off my Trans Am and since its in storage and Vette rims r in its near future i have 2 245/45/16 tires that r like new, the back to r roasted to nuthin. anyways, i have a set of slicers goin on my white plus that could use new tires and i was thinkin about puttin these on the front because they r such a nice handling tire. i know they wont fit on the back but i was thinkin about puttin a narrower tire on the back of the same brand. first off, will they go ok on a slicer?? second, whats the widest i dare go on the back of the car??

thanx

Im almost positive that 245's will not even come close to fitting on the slicer. They are only a 6" wide rim, 225's are basically the outer limits for slicers. Now, in general, if you have like an 8 or 9" rim, you can fit 245's on a SHO. But definitely not with the slicers

A 205/65 tire will handle better on a slicer than a 245/45. That's just WAY too wide. I felt guilty putting a 235/45 on a 7.5" wide wheel. And keep the 4 tires the same size.

245’s maybe possible if you had taller sidewall height. But 45’s are a very short height wise tire. Maybe if you had a 70 series tire they would fit! That’d be sweet 70’s on a slicer it’d be huge I tell you!

i know its not the best idea but money is kinda tight and these tires arent being used. regardless of the performance gain/loss would the tire physically be able to be mounted on the rim??

For what it is worth, I have seen a SHO (94) that had 245/45R16's on slicers when oldsho bought it. I would not recommend it at all, but they do fit.

Physically? Yes. But if money is that tight, why not sell the tires, and get some other used ones that will fit? Odds are that the ones you have are more valuable than the ones you'd be getting and your car would handle better.

And 245/70 16?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? 245/55, if you had a wider wheel would be the max. Not only would the car handle MUCH worse on a slicer because they are too wide AND too tall, but the acceleration would crap the bed.

You want 245/70 16?? You'll be looking at tires with the names of:

Open Trail
Grandtrek
Radial Rover
Wrangler
Geolander

Maybe you could get into backwards tractor pulls? thumb

ok then, i guess ill be savin them for whe i feel like burnin out in the TA. i just figured a wide tire with a short sidewall would help my acceleration because of the amount of grip. the sidewall is smaller than i stock ire for a SHO so i am a bit confused as to how it would hurt my performance in a straight line.

Well, I was saying that a 245/70 16 tire would hurt. That was directed to shoguy11. Yeah, 245/45 is a shorter sidewall but it's also a heavier tire, too. How much heavier, I don't know. How much does the weight slow you down? I don't know. But I will say that the gains would be minimal and what is that worth compared to the horror show you'll have when you have to do something different, like.....turn?
