I had my tranny rebuilt on my 93 sho atx it has 80,000 total on the car and maybe the last 2000 or so are on the new tranny. What it does is if you have it completely floored right before redline it seems to either cut out (rev limiter) or be shifting a bit hard. My question is the car actually catching a bit of tire spin or having the fuel cut out near the redline is it normal? Or is there something wrong with the transmission. Before it was rebuilt if you shifted yourself it would shift oddly slow 1-2 if you left it in drive it would slip, and finally hit hard into 2nd. It seems to drive fine at all speeds at everything but full throttle.

If you haven't already done so, one of the best things you can do for your '93 ATX is to replace the computer with one out of a a '94 or '95 ATX. Your '93 came with an H3Z code computer, and Ford redid the program in '94 (and it carried through to '95) and it's code is D4U1.

The D4U1 will make the shifts much less sloppy, and prolong the life of your rebuilt transmission.

You should be able to find a used one (request one on the Forum or check eBay) for under $100.

Good luck.

half-way there, I think.
Is it just shifting hard or does it feel more like it's ramming(droppping) into 2nd?? Honestly, hard quick shifts are better for the lifespan of an ATX. Sounds like you're hitting the rev limiter then it's shifting. Did the rebuild include a shift kit??

No it feels more like hitting a rev limiter, I wasn't sure as many atx cars shift before they hit the rev limiter. No shift kit I asked for one but the trans shop we went to said whoever they delt with didn't have one for these cars. They also kept trying to tell me it's cause ford just took a taurus tranny and beefed it up very miinorly for the extra hp. I will look for a 94/95 cpu as suggested in another post here and look into the issue a bit mre.

Why do you think there's a rev limiter? From what I've been told, there's fuel cutoff at 8k rpms. I've seen my ATX shift as high as 7200rpms.

If you're indeed hitting 8k rpms before you shift, you're going to have some serious problems. Not just with your tranny, but with the accessories. They can't spin that high for long.

For the heck of it, do you want to try my extra '93 ATX computer? It's the original H3Z code. You could just pay me for shipping, try it out, send it back. It may help you figure out if a faulty ECM is your problem.

Good luck.

EDIT: I just checked, and I can FedEx Ground it to you for about $3. Let me know.

This is exactly the same problem I am having with my '94 ATX. I just got the car in December of 02 with 127k on it, don't know the history of the car.

I'm 100% sure at WOT it hits the fuel cutoff just at redline and then shifts, hard, it churps my new tires on the 1-2 shift at WOT or anything close to it. I don't know if this is normal or not. The other wierd thing is that when passing at WOT it will go 3-2-3, doing a big fuel cut-out at redline before the shift up to 3.

Is this a tranny problem?
