I plan on getting a wideband 02 sensor... especially now since I heard Ian was running a bit lean. Probably from Josh.
Question... I read it is best to tap a new location for the sensor, rather than replace an existing 02 sensor. If you do this with the Y pipe still intact (drilling a hole/tapping into the pipe), will the metal fragments that result from the drilling be of any concern to the safety of the motor? Sorry if this is a ******** question, but I assume my Y pipe is immovable...

If I were to put a wide band on the V8 I would use the SAI injection port on the front exhaust manifold.

:scratch head:
hmmmm. Is the port threaded for an 02 sensor, or does it require modification. In doing this, I assume the SAI would be out of commission... but it already is with Doug's tuning, right?

Wouldn't you want to have it past where both sides of the exhaust have mixed (such as after the y-pipe) in order to accurately measure the average between both banks rather than have one bank only monitored?

The SAI OBDII codes are turned off if you want it that way. The SAI would be physically disabled on the one manifold if that is where it was used.

I have asked about where to put the sensor and the general consensus was one bank is close to the other and if they were different what would you do about it.

The O2 senors have a 18mm x1.5 thread, the SAI threaded hole is ~ a 22mm. What I did when I took my SAI hardware off was cut the flared end of the fitting that goes into the manifold leaving a nice hex head. Then tapped it for a 1/2" bolt. This could be done for a O2 sensor too.
