I have a '95 ATX and i have two problems.

1) When I turn it on I can't shift because its locked, what do I do  :(

2) My back window has something on it and it does want to come off. When I tried to take it off with Windex it just smudges. What do I do here

1) Sounds like it could be the BOO (brake on off) switch. Won't let you shift out of Park unless the brake pedal is pressed, and the BOO switch senses that.

2) Use something stronger than Windex?

more to my first problem, I did push the brake. Before when i would come out of park i would have to put the brake petal to the floor so the trany would come out of park.

Dammit, Jeff. I'm not saying you didn't push the brake. I'm saying there's a sensor that senses when you push the brake that isn't working. When that sensor isn't working it doesn't allow you to shift out of park.

You might be able to shift out of park and into neutral with just the key on (and engine not running). Then you could start the car and get into drive.

the BO/BO switch is located right on the brake pedal arm. usually just a plastic ****** on it pushed into the metal arm, with a simple connection. not saying this is right, but its how a majority of Fords BO/BO switches are...

hey steve, I think you need to switch to decaf!!! wink

monkey, I got the solution to both problems, sell that slushbox and get a 5 speed. That is just too sweet a motor to have an automatic behind it. And as for the rear window, to quote the italian dude from the movie gumball rally, "what is behind you is unimportant" as you say this, you must rip your rear view mirror off and lob it out the window, just like he did in the movie. Actually, I would start with something mild, like windex, if that doesn't work try alcohol. Still no go, try lighter fluid. Still no luck, maybe kerosene. If all else fails through a faaakin brick through the rear window and call your insurance dude!

Check the main fuse for your brake lights (also has the audio system on the same fuse) in the main fuse block under the hood. If it's blown the brake lights won't work and the car's safety feature won't allow you to shift from park until your brake lights are working.

"Dammit, Jeff. I'm not saying you didn't push the brake."

LOL!!!!

Jeff, go to the store and get yourself a can of "Goof-off" to clean up those sticky little messes. It's a must-have in mans garage. Use in a well-ventilated,... unless you're into that kind of high.

This one is on the drivers side of the car, right?

I also looked at the fuse box under the dash and nothing was wrong there, but could over missed something.

Just give my your in put for what to do and i'll try it.

brake lights will not function if the BOO switch is gone.

Sounds like someone may have rigged the BOO in the past if it looks funky or there are extra wires that don't look factory on there.

Best of luck.
