if 1 Bar is 14.5 PSI, why are people changing our the 2 Bar MAPs for 3 Bar MAPs? Wouldn't a 2 Bar MAP be good to 29-ish PSI?

2 BAR or 3 BAR simply mean two or three times above barometric pressure. The sensor will measure each direction, vacuum or pressure.

For reference:
  • 1 BAR is for a normally aspirated engine
  • 2 BAR will handle a forced induction up to 14.5 psi of boost
  • 3 BAR will handle a forced induction up to 29.0 psi of boost

For most people running the transverse engined turbos, they really don't need the 3 bar unless boost is above 14.7 psi. That includes boost spikes. Now if you are running a tune and it is "hot", you could easily exceed that boost level on a regular basis, not just on spikes. So the 3 bar will give you the resolution to handle the boost correctly and safely.

a tune that pushes the programming of the car to perform at its max limits - safe limits from reputable tuners, unsafe limits from shady ones.

I’m thinking the stage 1 pkg from Livernois is my choice for the tune.

What year is your SHO? On the newer Gen there's no Stages. It's based on octane level: 91 tune, 93 tune, 100 race tune, etc. I have the 93 tune from LMS and love it!!!!
