A big difference between a Quaife and the typical limited slip diff, which I think is what K-Dawg was trying to point out, is that if you take all the load off one wheel with a Quaife it behaves like an open diff. i.e., one wheel in the air, apply power, only the lifted wheel spins and ZERO torque goes to the other wheel. Apply a enough resistance (load) the lifted wheel, and the Quaife will eventually figure it out and move some of the torque to the other one, too. That's not typical LSD behavior.

The lines are blurry around what people typically mean by LSD, and there are so many technologies, e.g., lockers, Torsens, Quaifes, clutch-packed diffs, etc., etc., that it's not surprising that there's confusion.

Si Senor...semantics really. In teh 4wd world we classified them as Those that are welded, those that Bang and pop, and those that slip a bit LOL.

and back on the autocross subject. i ran one season without the quaife and it is POSSIBLE. but stiff springs, no front sway bar, and some really sticky tires are a must. only big difference at that point is having to wait a couple tenths of a second longer to stabb the throttle in a turn. with all of the above and a quaife you can get on the throttle very early and get the "slingshot" effect in tight corners wich is worth it's weight in gold for getting this big car to turn.
