Hi all,

I have a 2016 SHO that has Livernois 93 tune 3 map sensor, windstorm cai, and custom exhaust. Lately while at idle it has been smoking a bit I think just out of the left pipe, (I haven't noticed the other doesn't mean it isn't smoking too). As soon as I take off the smoke goes away and doesn't come back until I sit at idle for a while, and it may or may not happen even then. No power loss, I thought it may be because the after market catted downpipes just don't filter everything, but wanted to put it out there and see what everyone thinks.

Does this happen after the engine has warmed up/car has been driven for a little bit? Weather's turned colder in our area, so thinking possibly condensation in the exhaust.

White smoke otherwise could be a coolant leak of some kind. Could be the engine OR the turbos. I'd suspect the turbos more because they are watercooled and sometimes do have gaskets/feed tubes that fail early. But check the intercooler to see if there is any buildup in there that could possibly be getting sucked into the intake.

Custom exhaust = ??? Turboback or the downpipes or both? Can you elaborate please? Ok, found a post from earlier:
Livernois 93 oct Tune 3 map, windstorm CAI, livernois downpipes, and upgraded thermostat

What size is the piping on the turboback exhaust?

I would like to say yes it only happens if it is warmed up.the coolant level is stable and the oil looks normal. But normal driving there isn't even a hint of smoke. If I sit at idle for say 10 mins 1/10 of the time there is a white cloud of smoke behind me that clears within seconds and doesn't usually return for at least a week. The exhaust is 2.5 in to my magnaflow can mufflers (which are getting replaced because they are WAYY to loud in the car). After my resonator delete, while at idle the kind of putters, it's not a constant stream of exhaust, I am considering an X-pipe to fix this.

Well, since the incidents are so few and far between, and there is no effect on performance or mpg, wait & watch is probably the thing to do here. Definitely keep an eye on the intercooler though, it's easy enough to check.

I'm not much of a car (repair) guy, I don't know how to check or keep an eye on the intercooler, you say they are water cooled, where does the water come from to cool them?

Water cooling = coolant cooling. SHO turbos have water jackets and coolant line feeds, in addition to oil cooling.

The intercooler is just an air to air cooler that cools the turbo output going into the intake manifold. Now because the incoming air charge carries a mix of oil fuel and water along with the air, the temperature drop can be enough to precipitate some of it out. Most SHOs dont really have an issue, but some do.

I will post a link on how to check the intercooler soon.

Intercooler replaced because of a different issue and the problem persists, its not a huge deal as it happens rarely, I just want to be sure it is not damaging something else.

Keep an eye on the coolant level, as that, aside from water vapor from combustion, would be the primary source of the white smoke. The turbo coolant lines may be leaking just a tad, or the water pump, or (hard to believe) the head gaskets. Fuel trims probably won't finger the issue esp if it happens so rarely.

"a white cloud of smoke"...? Any odor to it? I would keep a close eye on the dipstick, oil fill cap, and pcv tube also. Whatever the cause it's coming from somewhere. I know it's rare, but............head gasket?

I have a 2015 and at install of my livernois stage 4 with their catted down pipes get oil smell and smoke when holding a rev at 2,500 rpm in park for 10secs or longer.

This was at 6k miles on the car.

But when driving under load or even after getting on it don't have any oil smell or smoke.

Have a catch can as well.

Coolant level has been steady since I have owned the car, and where I park it is completely clean. The oil is normal not milky, I'm at a loss, but it doesn't effect performance just stinks a bit sitting at the stop light every couple weeks;)
