I have read that a few guys have had a similar whine after the cam belts were changed. does it eventually go away or is there way to take some of the tension off without taking everything apart? Thanks for any input. Eric

Nope not good. If it would have gone away afer 2-3000 miles then its ok. You'll need to retention your belt.buechine:
actually seems to be getting noisier already have went about 7000 miles but if that's the way they are then I can live with it. Sounds like a big supercharger but doesn't go like it has one!
You state that it started after you replaced the timing belt? If this is so I would retention it per the Ford manual and go from there. This is a free try and at least if it works then you set and if not, you can rule the timing belt out.buechine:

All you have to do is jack stand the front and remove the passenger wheel. Then remove the inner liner. Pop off the little window as mentioned above. Unplug the DIS module, then using a 19mm socket and ratchet rotate the engine clockwise until the TDC mark (white) is on Zero of the timing marks. Use a 14mm socket and loosen the tensioner pulley through the window. Then rotate the engine one full rotation then on the second rotation, stop at the 60 degree mark (yellow)before TDC on the Zero timing mark. Tighten the tensioner pulley 25-37 lb-ft Then put everything back together. All done.Huntervf:
Actually, there is a little "window" in your lower timing belt cover that you can remove and access the tensionser. You still need to remove the wheel & inner fender liner, but it beats tearing everything on the side back down again. I've never had to re-tension a timing belt so I don't know if anything else needs to come off...perhaps the acc. belts?
