Which front tire will wear faster, right or left?

Or perhaps there is no significant difference?

I had to get a new front tire the other day due to a nail puncture. I didn't realize the tire was flat until I had ruined it.

Anyway, I'd like to put this brand new tire on the side that will get the most wear.

As far as I know they wear about the same.

IMO it would be better if you could change both tires at the same time (If you can afford it). Maybe save the older one for a spare.

Depends on how the alignment is setup. A perfect alignment should wear both sides evenly. But the only way to tell is to put the tires on and watch how they wear. Or you could get 2 new tires and have it properly aligned.

All things being equal (alignment, etc) the right side will, since that side is loaded more than any other corner (engine is biased to that side, as well as the battery, etc). On a stock SHO it can corner weight out as much as 100 +lbs more.

Thanks guys. I probably should have elaborated a little more. Which side would spin more with an aggressive driver. My foot is fairly heavy and I figured one side or the other might have a tendency to wear out faster.

The Camaro's/Firebirds which I have more experience with also tend to favor the right side when the cone clutches in the limited-slip start to wear.

I guess that depends on how much ballast the drivers seat is holding........ :squint:

Just a warning, you've probably heard it already.....the stock SHO transmission and clutch tend to bust with too aggressive driving, especially takeoffs. It isn't like your typical RWD where you can dump the clutch, mat the gas, and watch the tires smoke. Try that very often in a SHO, and you will be pricing a tranny and clutch. We already have enough threads about broken trannys, don't start the next one! :thumb:

The passengerside front will wear faster if you have a decent foot, the open diff will take it's toll. That is unless you always have a passenger, then your driver side should wear. And if you have 2 passengers and can get the weight just perfect you can light them both up :burn_out:(I know from expierence :D )

99% of MTX failures (diff pin failure) occurs from excessive high RPM clutch dumps (burnouts and/or hard launches). there has been that 1% that failed under normal driving operations (shifting at recommended shift points).

It will depend on which direction you turn more. The inside tire on the turn will wear less because it travels a shorter distance. :cool:
