Wheres the coolant go

I took the thermostat out a few weeks back. Put about the same amount of coolant back in that came out. Didn't loose any coolant for a week. I drove it on a couple 60 mile trips. Started it the other day and low coolant light is on. I put about a gallon in. Took it for a drive and put another half gallon in. Drove it about 10 minutes to get it warm up. Came home and looked for leaks. Nothing. Can't see any leaks or any steam out of the exhaust. Anybody want a sho?

Degasser tank on passengers' side.

Is it still an original black top? If so, it cracks on the bottom along the reinforcing ribs. Then when the car heats up, the tank expands under pressure.

When the tank expands, those cracks leak and the coolant runs out of the tank, through holes in the wheel well sheet metal, and down onto the tire as it is rotating at highway speeds.

Go home, shut off car, pressure drops, never leaks on the driveway.

Now, if it is a replacement white/clear plastic top on the tank, I have only seen a couple of those fail.

In short - check your degasser tank.

It's clear on top but I will keep an eye on it. Not near as hot as it was the other day. Thanks for the info.

Also it doesn't it doesn't hardly get off cold since I pulled the stat. I bought a new one but it didn't open until about 205 just like the one I took out. I need to get it replaced asap.

Had pinhole leaks in the coolant tubes attached to the throttle body. Very hard to find.

Right on. Will keep an eye on that. Hasn't showed any signs of leaking but have some hot weather coming. Will see.
