Where's the cable????

So i'm cruising along at 25mph in 2nd gear and all of a sudden the tranny lets out a loud bang the shifter shoots out of gear and into neutral and the clutch doesn't work anymore. Well, the clutch kinda works a little. If I rev it up to 4000rpm and drop the clutch, 5 seconds later I start to move. It is acting like the clutch is completely worn out but prior to the "incident" the clutch was working perfect. I was thinking that a cable popped off or something, but I know very little about tranny's. TOB, pressure plate, would there cause the same symptoms?

Sounds like bad news. Hopefully some of the mtx'ers can shed some light. In one of my old cars I had that happen as I was just starting to depress the clutch. The bang was the actual clutch disk exploding. Hope it was something more simple for you.
