Wheels, Lower?

Well, lets see some pictures of these wheels, then! Maybe some thoughts on them could sway you one way or the other? shrug

I can only tell you what I know, based on 17" rims. I think it would still apply to an 18" or 19" rim. A 17 x 8" rim with a 40mm offset and 235 tires does not rub (in the rear), but it's close. The same rim with a 245mm tire does rub the rear strut. A 7.5" 42mm offset rim with a 245" tire also rubs the strut. They don't rub much in either case and only during aggressive cornering, but they rub nonetheless. So... I would be surprised if a 45mm offset 8" wide rim did not rub with a 235" tire. 40mm is the ideal offset. 35mm will fit in the front (but stick out quite a bit) and rub against the rear fenders on a Gen1, probably a Gen2 as well. One last thing... There's also the very real possibility that a 45mm rim would cause the inside of the front tires to rub against the top bolt of the sway bar endlink.

The struts angle away from the verticle line made by the hub surface. The bigger the wheel, the more room between the strut tube and the back of the wheel. You should pick up a mm or 2 going to a 19" wheel. The shorter sidewall will flex less. Trial and error time. Be sure to check the trailing arms, they are closer than most people realize. I have 16-7 36mm on my 92, so I'm talking theory, not experiance.

The spacers are no big deal, and shouldn't stop you from getting the wheels you want. They are cheap, and if you only need them in the rear, it won't negatively affect the suspension to any reasonable degree. I say go for it! I think they will look awesome on your car.
