I'm preparing to buy 19" rims for my SHO and go with a 235/35/19. I only drive it in the summer so no worries. The overall diameter is close to stock. The rims have a 45mm offset. Is this ok? Am I going to have fitment or rubbing issues? I searched the forum already, but not to many people talk about 19's. I am still on stock suspension, and I want to lower it (especially after seeing RI-SHO in action R.I.P.)with the intrax, koni setup but after hearing all the alignment issues I don't know what the **** I should do. Suggestions? shrug

I think 19's would look great. However they may not perform superb, and maybe very heavy. I think you should be fine with rubbing, unless you lower too far -like maybe more then 1"- then you might rub tires. how wide and what offset are the rims?

How wide are the rims? If they're 7.5 or 8" wide, 45mm offset is too much. The tires will rub the struts in the rear. 42mm is the most you can go.

Thanks for your responses, I was beginning to feel like my posts had three heads or something. The rims are 19X8 and are a 45mm offset. I have not lowered yet and don't want to until I have the rims. I would think that the increasd diameter of the rim would clear the struts. Any ideas? Would a 35mm be better? Explain this offset stuff to me.

I believe 19's would look great. Especially after seeing RI-SHO (R.I.P) move around on 18's in some videos.

I can only tell you what I know, based on 17" rims. I think it would still apply to an 18" or 19" rim. A 17 x 8" rim with a 40mm offset and 235 tires does not rub (in the rear), but it's close. The same rim with a 245mm tire does rub the rear strut. A 7.5" 42mm offset rim with a 245" tire also rubs the strut. They don't rub much in either case and only during aggressive cornering, but they rub nonetheless. So... I would be surprised if a 45mm offset 8" wide rim did not rub with a 235" tire. 40mm is the ideal offset. 35mm will fit in the front (but stick out quite a bit) and rub against the rear fenders on a Gen1, probably a Gen2 as well. One last thing... There's also the very real possibility that a 45mm rim would cause the inside of the front tires to rub against the top bolt of the sway bar endlink.

The diameter of the rim will not matter in rubbing the fenders. Unless you go 24" BLING BLING!!!!!!

It's all in the width and corresponding offset. But go with Dave's assessment. If the offset is right, then 235/35 tires should work fine. boink

Everything including tire size will fit great except the 45mm offset, even the width could be pushed to 8.5".

Height wise you wont have to worry about rubbing unless your SHO is dropped 2.5" front and 1.75" rear like mine was, because you will still have a 25.5" tire diameter with those 235/35/19 that my 235/40/18 tires did.

Would the 35mm offset work? That is the other option for this rim. The rim guy says that 35mm will definitly work. Or could I go 45mm in the front and 45mm in the back, or any other combination? Are spacers an option and where with the 45mm or the 35mm? I really love these rims and want them so bad. This is what the guy said:
Tony-

I have confirmed this from Axis and the 35mm offset is the only way to go on your car.

We have the Hypersilver in stock now (see attached) we just got some in!

If they allow you the option to pick different offsets, I would still just go with the 45mm all around and buy spacers for the rear b/c it will be very close to rubbing when driving I doubt it will stopped.

The larger the offset number(i believe most wheels its negative offset) the more the rim itself will sit closer to the strut side of the wheel, so with the 35mm it will be out more, but stick out upfront and rub on the fender side in the rear.

Thanks man, Cleared up a whole lot. Now where can I get spacers, and what thickness? I don't need them up front?

I just bought some 18x7.5" wheels with a 45mm offset and need to get spacers to keep the wheel from hitting the caliper. I'm going with the Mr.Gasket set from Summit Racing, I only need the 7/32nds set to clear everything.

Check Summit, they have a load of spacers in all different widths.

Hey, I drive around in it in the summer in the area. You probably have seen me and my two other buddies with Sho's. I have a red mtx with tint and balckouts f/r, and the bra. My buddy has a red 95' atx red with 75,000 miles from the place in Rowley, and my other buddy picked up the other one that was in Rowley. The 94'mtx red. All in the spring last year. Mine's the nicest though. Kinda wierd that we all have sho's and the same color from the same town. I was gonna ask you to do some work for us this summer. Maybe hit Epping up sometime.

Guess i'm going to have to get some small spacers for the rear, but how about the fronts? are there any downsides to spacers?

19" isn't that the size they use on 18 wheelers? What do they weigh?

My 18x8's were about 24lbs each, now 19x8's should still be under 30lbs each, which is still a pretty good increase from stock but nothing crazy like 40lbs 20x9 rims :) . If you have the extra $$ there are 19's out there which barly stay under 20lbs each.

These 19x8's are 24lbs each. I think that is pretty respectable for a big rim. Still debating. I don't know if i want to drop all the money on rims that i will need spacers for.
