Driver's side wheel issue and I can't determine if it is the CV Axle or the Bearing and Hub assembly.

The hub assembly is wobbly and moves back and forth about 1/8 of a turn when moved by hand. It also moves up and down a surprising amount. The noise is loud and "grindy" when the car moves. It failed all at once with no tell-tale rumble ahead of time.
The CV Axle does not move when the hub is moving / turning (at least not the part that goes back to the transmission) but who knows what is happening under that boot near the wheel

I can easily buy the CV Axle as it is listed for the SHO. The Bearing and Hub are listed, but no SHO designation is in the listing. The hub listed has a 26 spline count, same as the CV Axle spline count, so that makes me hopeful.

My question is - can I use the regular Taurus Bearing and Hub Assembly in a 1990 SHO?

So you grabbed the wheel at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock to get the 1/8 turn? Worn inner or outer tie rod end. Play when grabbing the wheel at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock is a bad wheel bearing.

I have found in most cases that only the wheel bearing needs to be replaced but the hub is fine. I've replaced dozens of bearings over the last 23 years but only had to change the hub a couple of times. If that's the case, Timken set 49:

If the hub also needs changing, I used to use Timken 513100, but it seems that those are no longer available:

Regular Taurus hub assemblies work, but be aware that the studs are slightly shorter than for the SHO. They will work...just. You could always transfer your existing studs over.

Yes, this little tip shows me that I already have regular Taurus hubs on the front wheels. So I wont be swapping out my studs.

The current hubs have thread contact on the entire wheel nut, while my other SHOs have 2 to 3 threads exposed when the nut is tightened.

Great tip.
