What's with the tailights on Gen I's ?

Ok this is going to sound like a silly question, but why do most Gen I Tauruii (not just SHO's) have a reflector between the brake/tail light and back-up light and very few hade a seprate turn signal/hazard flasher between them? A friend told me this was just on the '91's is that true? Personally, I think all SHO's should have gotten the seprate turn signal/hazard flasher in the back.

the original 86 taurus's had the red, amber, clear taillights its just left over from the 89 model refresh. for some reason in 91 ford cleared on the last amber turnsignals on the sho's i guess.

So basically, Ford had a bunch left over and were trying to use them up?

that'd be my best guess. most 89-91 slo's had the red lenses but i've yet to see any model have one or the other proprietarily. seems to be no rhime or reason to the different lenses. my guess would be the upper models LX, SHO would have the amber and the lowers would have the plain lenses.

Just to confuse things a bit there is a also another tailight that was only on the "L" trim levels. It was a rather bland looking tailight though.

Jeloslug, I assume you are talking about the kind with the 3 thin vertical lines on the Back Up as opposed to the 3 fat horizontal lines almost all GEN I's had?
