Anyone else have an opinion? There's no loss of power that I noticed (I babied her home after I heard the noise, but I did have to go up 2 large hills) and it doesn't seem to really get louder or faster with revs.

This has been my luck the last two days. I got the car over to my girlfriends apartment and of course their wasn't enough lighting, went to work this morning and there was a rolling road block on the interstate, and photobucket is down so no one can see my vids, I'm at work so I can't put the video on youtube.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :grrr:

if it doesn't go up with revs (actual rpm of the engine not speed of the car), which a timing belt tensioner, cam chain tensioner and rod bearings would, it might be a bad cv, does it go up with vehicle speed?

It's sounds like it's speeding up with the rpms but it's not getting any louder. I had some one look at it and we agree it's coming from the altenator area.

The car is at the shop now they'll call me before they start to work on it. Has anyone ever had a waterpump go out and make a ticking noise? We (stepdad, mechanic, myself) thinks it's the timing belt tensioner. As far as it being at a shop (which I hardly do) it's my stepdad's neighbor and he owes my stepfather a few favors.

Let me know what they say SHOtime3. You probably saw my post that I have a rattle too. I'm curious as to what it is. I think mine might be a cam chain. I new hear the noise at engine dead center and on top of the valve cover on the front far right side. After driving, it's intermittent and goes away, so I doubt it's a rod knock.

Is your engine noise intermittent? I found out that if I start mine and let it idle, you can hear the sound; after driving for a minute it goes away. It goes up with the revs for awhile and then when you get it out on the road going at higher rpms it seems to disappear even when slowing and putting it back at idle:confused:

FYI, the waterpump was just replaced on mine when he did a 60k. I don't know if a waterpump would make that kind of noise.

I'll let you know what they say. Your thread was the 1st one I saw when my car started acting weird. I actually posted in your thread 1st and didn't really get any response so I started my own.

Yeah that's cool. I'm so frustrated with mine. I haven't had it a week and I already want to beat my head against the wall. I like the car but I have no SHO buddies here to help me with the complex stuff that I don't wanna tackle on my own. If I become at the mercy of my local shop or a mechanic, this car will wind up costing way too much. I don't want to sell it but I may have to. I'm waiting on a call back from a guy to see if he'll look at it this weekend and go over everything. If its a gummed up tensioner, maybe I'll run some Berrymans or Seafoam through the crankcase then go have the oil changed and see if that helps.

I normally do all the work myself, but I work Mon-Fri 9:45-about 7:30 and I have too much to do this weekend and I can't fool with it. If I didn't have the 3.2 ready to be swapped (if it is bearings) I would probably have one of those getting out of the SHO game threads (at least the taurus part of it).

Well he didn't get to it yesterday and I'm just going to do it myself tomorrow. The weird thing is that my car has now done the exact same thing as JRA2000TL's car. I picked my car up this morning and I can't hear the noise unless I'm under the hood give it pull the throttle back half way and then I only hear it about half a second as the revs die down. I guess I'll just work on it this weekend and see if it's the tensioner and I'll go ahead and give her some rod bearings while I'm at it.

BTW Has anyone ordered rod bearings from O'Reillys? I'm going to pick them up in about 30 mins. and they charge 5.79ea while Auto Zones are 68.99 for the set. I tried to stress that it's the 3.0 DOHC SHO motor and they said that's what they have. I just find this a little weird bc O'Reilys is normally higher than everyone else.
