When I installed mine I found that one set of instructions were wrong,it came with two.
The single sheet of paper had the correct install instructions.

I highly doubt it's keeping up with exhaust pulses at anything but idle.

Not going to respond to the rest because I don't want to get off topic, but you're mostly right about this. Wasn't just at idle, but certainly not through the whole rev range. That was on a 4 cylinder too, where it will be most pronounced, a V6 or V8 have closer spaced pulses, so less of an issue.
