Judging from the last picture, I think you are referring to the intake valves. As for what's on them, all I could guess would be carbon buildup. Last time I changed my plugs I got a flashlight and peeked down into the #1 cylinder (with the intake on, amazingly), and the face of the piston looked a lot like those valves. I don't know for certain what that is, though.

Time for some Z-Max, I guess. :p

sdpatt:
Carbon, sulphur and other fuel impurities.
I've never seen build up on the exhaust valves though - allways on the intake valves. The number 1 combustion chamber (top picture) has the worst build up, the material is more than a 1/32", almost a 1/16" where as the other valves have no to very little build up. You can see the powder from where I was scraping the deposits. The #3 combustion chamber (middle pic) is what I would expect to see.

If it where fuel deposits, why so much on one cylinder and not the others?? Plus I would expect the impurities to be black to brown in color - not white to grey in color with the consistancy of ceramic.

The heads are going into the shop in the next couple of days - I will let you all know what their verdict is.

Just got back from the Machinist - The verdict, as you guys stated - normal because of the crappy fuel here in Colorado. Heads should be ready for pick up tomorrow thumb
