I got my Flowmaster 40's put in today, and they sound SWEET! I'm gonna see what I can do about the tips... the shop just welded the stock ones back on. I might try doing what SHOZ123 did. That looks really good. Or I might just get some new tips that will fit up nicely.

JSIL1, did you remove the third cat and resonator? I just listened to your vid clip again and was wondering if you only replaced the mufflers or removed the cat too. I think the only thing I want to do is replace the mufflers. Keep the rest stock. Let me know.

All I replaced was the mufflers and the pipe between them and the Y. 3rd cat and resonator are still there.

BTW call me Josh

Wow, that sounds awesome. I think I'm going to stick with only the replacing the mufflers and put bigger piping on the stock tips.

There were some 40351's for 73 shipped but the auction ended and now It's going to cost me about ten more bucks, each. Oh well.

And Josh I was going to ask that too, Your car sounds awesome and I figured that you had the cat and resonator chucked, but apparently not.

Ohhhh to finally get around to having this done... :)

BTW I'm Paul everyone

Hey Josh, you say it's really worth it to put on new pipe after the y-pipe? Also what shop did you go to, a nationwide place, or a rinky-**** hometown place. I'd like to do your exact setup, and might use the pictures you took to explain it if needed. I'm to lazy to go back and look, you used 2.25" pipe or 2.5"? I'm getting ready to get the mufflers and run to a shop!

2.25 and I got it done at a Midas right by my house. Guy seemed knowledgeable (knew what a SHO was, I was blown away) and trustworthy just don’t know if he used SS Wire.

Oh yeah, id say it was worth it.

On a side note anyone in the Denver area a fabricator

Hey Josh, another question, you left the stock tips, which is what I'm going to do, did you put the bigger pipe opn the tip also? I think I will so the same thing as the pictures on this post, just curious as to what you did.

While I'll admit mine are nowhere near as nice as Paul's are. I had the guy at the shop flare the end and weld them up. As of the moment I think he put them staright on to the end of the muffler. I'll check when I get a chance.

I went with the stainless steel Magnaflow's, sound exactly how I wanted it to, not too loud, but definitely noticeable. Thanks everybody for the advice. I'm very satisfied and am ready for the next mod!

So yea, Borla's are a little more than I expected. Had 4 other people ride in da SHO tonight and everyone was very, very impressed. Had to even romp on it by the tennis courts in a nearby city to confuse everyone... WTF was that?

They sound beautiful, and i've never been so impressed.

I went to my custom exhaust guy Thursday, And am going to use the stock pipe (2.25" ID) back to the control arms. Then 2.5" SS to a single muffler on the drivers side. Plan on using a Bullets if they are still good. If not I get a Magnaflow.

I bought a stock pipe off eBay that was cut off at the control arms so it still has the resonator in it. He said he uses a 403 wire? High copper but not the usual junk.

I did the muffler's. After tearing into it; doing all the extra 2 1/4" stuff wasn't worth it. Just used a pipe expander and flared out the factory pipe running in to the Borla's, welded them to that pipe with stainless wire, used a little bit of regular 2 1/4" exhaust pipe and welded the factory tips into that. Still VERY loud... no questions asked. I didn't have the time or patience to do what Nimz did to his tips with the 2 1/4" pipe. So all and all I have all stainless as before except for a very small portion, about 1/2" of exposed generic aluminized pipe.

I was told by a friend (who has a 03 Silverado with just Flowmasters and no Cats) who got to drive it even before I did, that the car was loud. This is my second, now third day of driving it and I love the sound. As I said before, people playing tennis Thursday had no idea what just drove by. I'ts not unberable on the highway, you just have to understand you have basically a straight through muffler. :oogle:

Haha, nice, glad you like it. Like I said, I went with the Magnaflow's which are also a straight through design. I mainly went with them because I could get them at the muffler shop (which also probably cost more). From what you have described they are probably a step down from the Borla's, not quite as loud, but they sound really good though. I left everything stock except the mufflers and the pipe between them and the tip. I asked them about replacing the pipe after 'y', and then said it wouldn't make a difference in sound or performance, so I didn't mess with it either. I also asked them to flare out the stock pipe where it necks down but they said that wouldn't make a difference so they didn't do that either. That kind of ****** me off though. The biggest problem was I had to have my girlfriend take it to get it done because I had to work. She done good though. Anyways, I'm glad you're happy with the new sound, as I am too, enjoy!
