Hey guys, just got a 93 Taurus LX and I am wondering if it has R134A or the old 112? I haven't actually picked up the car yet so I can't go look. Anyone know? I wanna get the A/C blowing cold.

thanx

Crap, I was hoping for a less expensive fix. I hate the old stuff, pricey and a pain. Oh well, no A/c for me.

thanx

Just buy the $30 conversion kit at Wallyworld and try it. If it works, you're back in bidness for $30, if it doesn't, well, you're only out $30!

The change over was in '93. Some have R12 some have R134. You can tell by the color of the clutch or something like that. I do not have the info right now.

Look at the service ports.

If they look like tire valve stems, it's an R12 system.

If they look more like air tool quick-disconnects, it's R-134a.

A/c 134/R12

I believe the 93 were set up so that R134 can be used without problems. I would advise getting the "Smart valve" orifice as it will get colder and the compressor will last longer. My changeover turned out great, really gets cool!
