What is a normal Trans. temp?

I was Googling (Googleing?) trying to find out what a normal transmission temperature would be but all I could find were charts showing temperature's effect on fluid lifespans.

I've noticed mine sits around 160 Degrees on the Highway but in town I've had it go as high as 195 for long periods of time. Does tht seem a touch toasty to anyone else?

The sender for the guage is plumbed into a port on the top of the transmission, I don't know if the pan temperature is much different.

160 is great, 195 isn't bad at all.

Don't worry about it.

You can always add another cooler if you want to.

Mine tends to run about 140-150F most of the time, but in city stop and go, it will get as high as 190 or so on warm days.

My sender is in the pan, so it sounds like there is not a lot of temp difference from the two positions.

Could you please describe in more detail where you placed your sender? Will it be obvious when I get under the air cleaner assembly? Is there just a plug in the port right now? How many ports are on the top of the tranny? I would like to install a gauge in my car soon.

Use the EPC port. Be sure to ground the gauge there too. Use a brass jam nut from the lamp repair kits commonly found in the household electrical department at any wally world. Use a big ring crimp terminal to attach the ground wire.

Yes.. but my next question is how long does it take for it to start reading or get up to temp... I would say mine takes like 20mins maybe longer.. it seems like it takes forever to read.... I have my sending unit mounted at the epc

But you have a Gen 2. The port locations are reversed on the Gen 2 compared to the Gen 3. Are you using the front port or the rear port?

Also a different tranny.

Sorry for digging this up, but couldn't find this diagram at V8SHO.

So you hook up the sending unit wire and ground wire from the same EPC port?

Just double checking, I'm going out to work on the car now just to get an idea of what I'm dealing with.

The sending unit wire will come off the tip and the ground is attached to the outside of the sender on the body of it.

I have an autometer sending unit, but it doesn't seem to go in more than half of the threads. Normal? I put teflon tape on it and am going to Wal-mart to get the brass terminal.

Yes the threads are a tapered NPT thread. They do not need to go in all the way to seal, but can be forced if you aren't careful.

Well that was easy. Now to take pics and to make sure it works :nut:

I was able to get the sender down into the threaded hole, so it was my fault before thinking it was all the way in.

Mine runs about 300+

... on the track. And then it decides to lose overdrive. Stupid automatics. A manual in this car would be sweet. If only there were two guys dumb enough to sell me their MTX Gen 3's.

Drove on interstate around Lincoln tonight, with a nice warm up on some side streets totaling about 35 minutes. And I'm not easy on the car...

165... thank you Gen II cooler...

This was with 93 degree ambient heat outside.

What I can't understand is I had a weird bit after I bolted everything back together. Let off the throttle and it dropped and rose (the idle) without any touch of the pedal. It only happened a couple times on the interstate, and not again. I pushed the hoses back into the rubber intake tube in between the TB and air cleaner.

Weird...
