pretty much everything :snicker: j/k i would expect problems from the water pump, cps, plug wellls being filled with oil. Pretty much everything a 60k tune up will take care of. If you plan on keeping the car plan on doing that tune up. A full 60k usally consists of a new timing belt, new waterpump, new cps, new plugs and wires, new valve cover and plug well seals and checking that the valve are inline still.

Depends.

What shape is the car in? What maintenance has been done on it? How many miles on the car? How many miles since the last engine maintenance?

The SHO is capable of covering many, many miles if you are willing to take care of the required preventative and corrective maintenance activities. I should know.

Are you rebuilding the tranny as a preventive maintenance step or does it need it? I ask this because the tranny is actually a fairly solid unit unless you beat on it or plan on using some sort of forced induction. In stock form, you are a few hundred pounds of torque away from blowing up 3rd gear. You can shred the differential if you are fond of 6k rpm clutch drops.

If it does need a clutch, I guess cracking it open and having a look while it is out is not a bad idea. It is possible that you might find something. But, if you are ripping out an MTX with the impression that it's gonna blow up soon anyway, I would recommend against it. Unless you got the money burning a hole in your pocket. In that case, throw in a quaife while you're in there.

The poster above me (sdpatt) has a few million miles on his mtx and he pulls a boat with it. To the best of my knowledge, he hasn't done major tranny work.

Read all his posts if you wanna know what to do to get/keep yours running well. If I lived as close to him as you, I'd show up in his driveway with beer and mow his lawn and generally suck up to him for some first hand sho help. Scott, you still doin' 60K stuff on the side?

As for what to do, there is the obligatory 60K maintenance. Rod bearings aren't a bad idea as well. Then maybe freshen up the suspension (my current project).

Use the search function.
