just wondering if there's any bolts or such that are typical on our older cars of coming a bit loose and causing rattles (interior). no real problems, just wondering if there was anything to tighten the interior back up

My two noisiest places are the console and the passenger door panel. The console I fixed with some neoprene weather stripping at the latch (now the latch is snug and insulated from vibration) and I plan to use the clear silicone technique (between the panel and door metal) to quiet up the passenger door.

On my 95 ATX the problem areas are:

Areas:
1) Door weatherstripping
2) Instrument panel bezel (the part that contains headlight switch, rear defooger, redundant radio controls).
3) Rear seat when no one is in it
4) Centre console

Explanations:
1) When not raining the doors squeak as the Gen II flex-o-matic body flexes. The cure is to lubricate the weatherstripping with a silicone spray. I do this once a month. I also apply the silicone to the trunk weatherstipping and the weatherstipping that runs across the width of the engine bay close to the firewall under the hood.

2) Fixed with velcro.

3) The squeak comes from the 2 brackets that attach the bottom of the rear seat back to the body. Specifically it is the bolts on the seat back itself rather than the bolts that connect the seat back to the floor.

4) The part of the centre console that contains the cup holder contains tabs that slip into the bottom half of the console. I wrapped the tabs with friction tape and re-installed the top part of the console.

I found that replacing the "christmas tree" looking gizzmos that attach the door panel to the door eliminated door panel squeak. I think I paid 40c each at the dealer. Each front door requires, IIRC, 14 of the little buggers.
