Gotta buy a pair of traction tires, and perhaps a set of 4. Put this off long enough, and had some very unpleasant experiences on Thursday driving back in snow with my 4 20% former police tires.

What are people using and what vendors? Supposed to snow today, and ill be going up to syracuse, so I'm doing it this morning.

heres a couple pics showing why snow tires are necessary. :)

Went with Mastercraft Glacier Grip from Town Fair Tire, which can be studded if need be. Time for 300 miles of snow driving! :dribble:

Deeper the threads = better for snow

Soft rubber compound with plenty of tiny "cracks" = better for ice (not good for summer , they will not last and you will have less grip then summer/all seasons tires.)

Good-year makes good tires , pretty cheap too.

Nokian is pretty much up there in the rank. if you want higher quality.

I always went with the cheapest stuff as far as winter tires , as long as you like the threads and you dont drive them in the winter when theres only 40% left. I usually wear them in the summer when I know they are not good for another season.

I run a set of four Magnaforce WinterGrip on my 91. They work well and are stock size 2156016 and studded. I bought them locally at Jack Williams Tire for less than $400 a set.

Generally I just run for t-shirts.

Grammar is fun.

Anyway, I can't help you in choosing a tire as I have 0 experience, but I can tell you that you CANNOT just use 2 winter tires. Whichever end of the car doesn't have winter tires will slide about as if you put flat metal plates on those corners. If you get any winter tires, GET ALL FOUR.

Hankook Winter I*cept 310's in a 215-60-16..... They are very good in the snow, and not as noisy as other snow tires I've had. They are called a high performance snow tire.

run·ning [ruhn-ing] Show IPA
noun
1.the act of a person, animal, or thing that runs.
2.managing or directing: the running of a business.
3.an act or instance of racing: the 113th running of the Kentucky Derby.
4.the condition of a track or surface to be run or raced on; footing: Our track team had muddy running today.
5.the amount, quality, or type of a liquid flow.

Definition two is what I am using. :)

Sure you can use just two winter tires. I do it all the time on RWD vehicles, just not as safe as 4 winter tires, but a lot cheaper.

I did put 4 on this car since its FWD

Back from upstate, the mastercraft glacier grip were extremely good with traction. Unbelievably, I was able to pull forward from a complete stop uphill on a side street with 4 inches of unplowed snow on the ground and no studs installed. The aggressive tread did great for that.

My only complaint was that I had consistent vibration after 60mph, which became extremely irritating after a couple hundred miles. When I got back, I had them re-balanced and all tires were a half ounce off.

Its better, but there is still a slight vibration after 70, which I attribute to the nature of the tire, pretty comfortable otherwise.

I ran Bridgestone Blizzaks on my BMW, and that car might as well have had tank treads instead of tires on snow. It got around better than my 4x4 with brand new all-seasons. I'm definitely a huge fan of the Blizzak, I know it's a bit pricey, but it's definitely worth it in my experience.

We don't get a lot of snow here, maybe 6-12 inches at a shot. I run Fusion HRIs year round. They're good, but the best I ever used was Bridgestone Potenza G09s, I've pushed show with the headlights getting out of the garage with those one year when we got 16 inches overnight.
