The only thing this guy did was the actual welding. My dad and I did everything else of taking the intake and stuff off. My dad is also friends with the owner so I had him go with me when I had it done.

Mine was free :)

It took a long time to tear the motor apart though, and try to remember where everything goes. Oh well, I have alot more respect for the motor now.

Okay, new V8 SHO owner here... Is there a certain way that the cams need to be welded? Or can I get somebody I know, that can weld well, to do it for me if I take the valve covers and everything else off? Is there a particular technique that should be used when welding our cams? Anything else that should be known before welding the cams?

From what I've heard, the metals on the cam and sprocket are different and whoever is welding them should take that into consideration when welding, whether that means a different technique, different welds, etc. Ive just been told to take it to someone who has experience with the SHO because of that fact. I guess though if its no biggy about the metals and you can find someone to do it, go for it. I just thought I would throw that out there.

IF I had the V8, I wouldn't want to trust cam welding to someone who wasn't experienced with the job. I would take it to Kirk and Chris in Spencer MA, or another qualified SHO V8 shop that has done this and been successful at it. To me, the peace of mind is well worth the cost. There's just too much to lose. My $.02.

I agree. We've seen a few welded motors fail because the welds had no ***********. Others have warped their cams because they used too much heat. If you're going to weld your own cams you should at least find a bad cam to practise on.
