I've got a 94 Atx 3.2. I noticed this problem when i go up hills, really lay on the gas, or travel at high speeds on the interstate. When i'm in any of these situations my rev meter will go up accoridingly to the pressure of the gas pedal but when it reaches a limit it will go down quickly a few revs and then back up again until its at a normal interval. Now when i lay on the gas to go up a hill or pass cars the meter goes up accordingly and then it goes up some more and then down and back up as if the revs are trying to push the car faster.I feel the car going a little faster foward as the rev meter goes up.I'm getting ready to have my 60k done this weekend.I hope this solves this.Could this be anything to do with a valve lash that needs to be done? Or is it because of a little cylindrical actuator that sits bechind the intake and opens up at certain ranges could be bad?when i had my car serviced by a ford master mechanic he said that little cylinder should be replaced or you will "experience a loss in horse power".I'm lost And I really need help. Thanks

If it is just a couple hundred rpms it is the TC locking /unlocking.

When on the highway at cruising speed on a level straight road you can tell if the TC is locked by watching the tach as you give it just a bit of gas. If the TC is locked the rpms will slowly rise with the vehicle speed, if it is unlocked the rpms will go up quite a bit as it is slipping.

What Do I do?It seems the TC would be unlocked as the second description sounds like what I've been experiencing.Would a tranny and TC flush solve this?

If it unlocks with application of the brake or when accelerating it is probably normal. This can be changed with some advanced tuning. What you have to look out for is when the TC does NOT lock up, then there are problems ahead.

A flush (not power flush or just dropping the pan) and new filter should be done every 15k on dino fluid and 30k on synthetic fluid.

How do I tell when it is NOT locked up?Will a Complete flush and new filter solve this or should a mechanic look at it?I did notice when the mechanic that preformed the 60k on this 3.2 showed me a tranny fluid leak.Is this potientially bad?I'll check my fluid levels regularly for now.And another thing the mechanic added mercon3 ATX fluid. Is this suitable for this car?Thank you one and all.

The best way to tell if the TC is not lock is the tach, in 3rd and better in 4th. When at a constant speed and on flat terrain apply the throttle slowly.

If you see the tach rise more than 200 rpm the TC is not locked. Typically you sill see => 500 rpm for an unlocked TC.

What is the required ATX fluid type?I used Mercon3.One more thing, What is the required battery amperage for a 3.2 ATX/my battery is corroding and it may be a little too big for the tray. Thanks
