Weight is the enemy at the track, so I am wondering what people are doing at the track to bring weight down?

i would say its all up to you, if you want to gut your entire car go for it, but considering its new you probably don't want to, so i don't think theres much you can do besides taking out the spare and maybe the seats if they come out easy

smaller wheels n tires will help. less weight and a little less rotating mass.

Has anyone at least taken the time to remove the front and back seats? How difficult is it to remove the seats? What weight savings is there to be had with the removal of the seats?

^^Really??? It's not a drag car, its a family sedan with a little umph. Don't tear it apart like that, buy a car meant to see the strip and you may actually enjoy it and have a better time.

Use caution when removing the front seats. There is a seat mounted airbag.

Well I would beg to differ that this car is not a drag car. The 12.5 second 1/4 mile times already established make this a very track worthy racer. The majority of topics carried throughout the performance portion of the forum have replies based upon track times posted.
With the limited number of available modifications for this vehicle, the only other proven way to drop times at the track is to remove weight. A couple of hundred pounds shedded through 20 minutes of work through some conservative weight removal is pretty standard fare at the drag strip. I don't see why one can not have the best of both worlds, a sleeper of a daily driver and track warrior that would challenge on any bracket night.

What I think he's getting at is that it's a street car... Run it in street trim. You could remove weight until you have the bare essentials to pass tech and get it down the track if you'd like. The most I ever do is run less gas and make sure I don't have anything loose in the car. I don't change tunes at the track as well.

With that said, you should be able to remove the seat without a reflash (although I'd like to see the face of the person you would ask that to). You will likely get a light indicating a fault, but you have to be careful not to set the airbag(s) off while handling it.

I dont see a point either. 100 lbs is .1 in the 1/4. Run it with full weight and you will know what it runs when you start pulling parts. Unless you are putting some money down on a race and really need that extra time.

You dont need to use caution when pulling the seats. The airbags will not go off, nor does anything need to be reflashed. Unclip the harness and plug it back in when you're done.

"100 lbs is .1 in the 1/4 mile" is exactly the point that people are missing here. If it is not about faster times at the track, why are people putting in custom tunes, exhaust, CAI, etc... and then posting times here. The techniques and tactics required to post low times might not be for everyone, but that is exactly what I intend to do with this car. It honestly would be much appreciated for support in reaching my desired goals, rather than receiving criticism about my chosen path.

Magnum...you could remove the front seat, I think the back would be a bit of a PITA for what it's worth. Otherwise you could definately save some weight in the wheel department and maybe a few pounds with a battery. That's really about it I think. I've been looking at this stuff for a while and I think there might be a post or two about it.

Anything to be had with weight removed from the trunk?

No real weight in the trunk. If you have a spare you could take that out. All I have is the little compressor with basically som fixaflat. Might weigh 5lbs

I posted my opinion and I wasn't rude about it. If you want to do weight reduction I wont stop you. I just don't see a reason for it. Even if I took my car to the track I still wouldn't pull any parts from it. While pulling seats and other parts you run the risk of scratching the interior, or having parts rattling after you put them back in. I just dont feel it's worth it. It might be to you though.

I agree with you Bill....I wouldn't remove seats, etc. but I would however like to change or remove parts that would be permanent to reduce weight.

On my STi, I'm doing just that. I replaced the front bumper beam with a much lighter version saving 23lbs in front. I'm waiting for the rear bumper to come in stock again to save another 20+ lbs.

As some of you know, I went from 20"s to 18" Conti DW's & ASA wheels on my Brick and lost 60 lbs!!!! Yea... 15 lbs a wheel/tire.

The other advantage with this setup is that the tires are 2" shorter, which ups the 3.16 axle ratio to 3.40!

On a bad air night, I turned a 13.521 and backed it up with 3 other runs that were under 13.678. My 60 ft times were ALL under 2.0.

Next I am planning on removing all 5 doors.... How much weight do you think I can save this time?????:woo-hoo::woo-hoo:

Writing this on our trip back to FL from IA. My H & R lowering springs seem to help AERO, as we are getting 20.7 mpg and averaging 72.7 mph! Must have at least 1K additional weight with the three of us (Wife, Dog & ME) and a very fulll Brick.
