Has anyone used a reman water pump, compared to a new one, what are the pros and cons of the reman? Also I am going to replace the timing belt and the crank sensor, what else needs to be done?

I've used a remufactured waterpump in my SHO.

I asked this same question about a year ago while I was gathering info on parts needed for my 60k. The response was pretty much unanimous... reman waterpumps are OK :thumb:

I found the warranty to be the opposite: The new Motorcraft part had a one-year warranty, while the A1 Cardone remans from O'Reilly Auto Parts at least, came with a lifetime warranty. I have installed at least a dozen remans (a couple on my car) and have found them to last on average longer than the new pumps I have used. The longevity of the pump depends on who put it together, the pulley loads (belt tension) and abrasiveness of the coolant (DexCool is free of the silicates that can accelerate the wear of the seals). This applies to both new and remanufactured pumps. The lifetime warranty always helps.

I've also installed about a dozen Cardone re-manufactured pumps. No reason to buy a new pump, IMO. Look at the prices and you'll agree.

I've installed, heck, at least a couple hundred Cardone remanned water pumps in SHO's by now. If I try to get an accurate count, I'll **** myself.

I've never seen one fail. I've had cars come back for another service 5 years and 100K miles later with no problems.

Umm... "DexCool" ? That's GM Coolant! Blasphemy!

check that out... you sure it's safe? I mean, whatever to get the job done... I personally run a coolant mix of 70/30 (70 being coolant and 30 being distilled water) all year round.

Cardone. What I used and it looked great out of the box, worked just fine. Until the front of the car met with the side of a Malibu, but I don't think that's covered.

Reman is fine. Do your cam and crank seals at the same time. You'll already have everything apart.

Remanned pump is the way to go, as stated by ... well... everyone (almost).

The best planners have a full set of water pump gaskets handy. o-rings, pump to housing, thermostat, outlet, etc.. even though the reman pump comes with a pump-to-housing gasket, have the set handy.
