I didn't know there was a 3.0 and a 3.2 engine for the SHO I bought a 3.0 water pump which would not fit my 3.2 atx. My question is will a 3.2 mtx water pump fit on a 3.2 atx? thanks

MTX=3.0
ATX=3.2

I'd bring it back and exchange it. Yes a mtx 3.2 pump will fit on an atx 3.2 b/c it's the same pump.

Think of the water pump as being dependent on which transmission is in the car, not which motor is in the car! :D

The manual transaxle (MTX) SHO was equipped only with the 3.0L engine and the automatic transaxle (ATX) version was equipped only with the 3.2L engine.There have been a small number of conversions that fit the larger 3.2L engine to the MTX, but the auto parts providers have no fitments for that combination.

The 3.2L engine uses the remanufactured A1 Cardone 57-1458 from O’Reilly for $69.99 ($15 core) or RockAuto.com for $50.77 ($15 core). You may also locate new, complete pumps, but be prepared to spend around $200. The Fel-Pro ES70425 water pump gasket set is a good idea for the O-rings on the block and discharge tube from RockAuto.com for $5.25 or O’Reilly for $5.69.

No. No it's not. That information is COMPLETELY INCORRECT.

Again, you need to think about which TRANSMISSION is in the car, NOT which MOTOR is in the car.

To expand on Scott's information:

For cars with an MTX tranny: Cardone 57-1373 (reman) or Motorcraft PW-272 (new)
For cars with an ATX tranny: Cardone 57-1458 (reman) or Motorcraft PW-284 (new)

On MTX cars which have been converted from the stock 3.0L engine to the 3.2L engine from an ATX car, only the 3.2L ATX block is used -- everything else, including the accessories and WATER PUMP for the stock 3.0L MTX engine are used.

It really is easier to just ignore which motor that is in the car, and select many parts based on which transmission is in the car.

The guy has an ATX, atleast according to his sig. I was just being facetious when I said "MTX 3.2 pump". As long as he tells the parts guy "3.2" he should be golden. I was not referring to a motor swap, but instead the info in his sig.

BTW; Maybe I was taught differently, but I select parts based on which ENGINE is in the vehicle. The SHO is unique in this regard and even if someone did unknowingly go by the Y vin code chances are the parts would work. No need to take this any further, on my part atleast. The man obviously got the info he needed w/o any wars getting started. I say this is a good day. :thumb:

What happened to the post I made earlier? I don't think I deleted it.

A water pump intended for a Y VIN car will not work on an ATX.

MTX=Y
ATX=P

Which is another way of saying what I was saying. Thread was cleaned up to remove all the confusion and just ensure that the original question was answered correctly, and that anyone else reading the thread in the future understood which pump would be correct for their application.
