I need to disagree on the sham. I don't sham the windows. And that is were the films and spots is so visible. I will try to get a good picture next time i pull it out of garage. Raining today.

Im torn i wanted the life time but i never seem to keep a car more than 3 years. Have a shop that does six coats and puts a lifetime guarantee on it. But it is about $1,600.

Im torn i wanted the life time but i never seem to keep a car more than 3 years. Have a shop that does six coats and puts a lifetime guarantee on it. But it is about $1,600.

You know there are DIY coatings for under $50, right? If your paint is on good shape, a light polish with CarPro Essence or similar and coating of your choice, done. Won't last a lifetime, but no coating will. Most consumer versions claim 2 years, but I personally think 1 year is darn good and you could simply repeat the process once a year, if needed.

If you enjoy washing it by hand on a regular basis, Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic wax, Mother's CMX or even Turtle Wax Ice spray applied every couple of washes would do wonders. Heck, Mckee's 10 min paint sealant would do great and give you a solid shine and help reduce water spots. Point is, no need to drop $1600, especially since you don't keep cars long enough.

IMO the hard water and anytime in the sun= water spots.
Now this said if you have a wax?/coating of some sort then you have a protective layer and the hard water has an easy wipe off.

Shammies trap dirt and grease. They create scratches and swirls, because you cannot clean them properly.

My car looks like a mirror because I use two large mirofiber dry me a river purpose built drying towels after I use a leaf blower and compressed air to knock off the big water.

I have some of the hardest water in the nation and I get very few water spots. Just because you have done the same things for years doesn't mean it is correct.

If you would have told me 10 years ago palmolive, a single bucket, and shammie was wrong I would have laughed at you.

Now a less abrasive soap, two buckets, a leaf blower, compressed air, and mircofiber towels are the norm.

I have the CarPro Cermic coating it is starting to break down. Pan the Organizer just did a video on "The Last Coat Spray Sealer". I might do a correction again and give that product a go.

I like watching Pan the Organizer! I'll give that video a go, but the only thing stopping me are the same products for lower prices. Especially if all we are talking about it 6 months protection. The most recent LSP I put on my car was McKee's Hydro Blue Si02 and dude, that stuff is like voodoo! I bought it mostly to use for the wheels, but I have no LSP products left so I sprayed it on the body as well. They sent me a replacement bottle of their ceramic coating and I got that last week, so I'm excited to give my car a quick polish and get that stuff on.

Wife drove my car last Friday and when backing out of our garage, she love tapped her moms car and left my bumper with a nice scuff. Going to give it a light polish today, but it'll be there forever

I like watching Pan the Organizer! I'll give that video a go, but the only thing stopping me are the same products for lower prices. Especially if all we are talking about it 6 months protection. The most recent LSP I put on my car was McKee's Hydro Blue Si02 and dude, that stuff is like voodoo! I bought it mostly to use for the wheels, but I have no LSP products left so I sprayed it on the body as well. They sent me a replacement bottle of their ceramic coating and I got that last week, so I'm excited to give my car a quick polish and get that stuff on.

Shammys do nothing more than grind contaminants into the paint. I have been detailing cars for over 20 years. Shammys make me plenty of money as people think they are great.

For drying you should use several waffle weave microfiber towels. Personally I hit it with a leaf blower to get the big stuff and use the towels to dry the rest.

Here is my method

1 - Wash using 2 bucket method (Foam Lance as well)
2 - Dry it
3 - Clay
4 - Wash using 2 bucket method (Foam Lance as well)
5 - Dry it
6 - Compound with orange pad
7 - Wipe car with IPA ( Isopropyl Alcohol cut with distilled water 50/50)
8 - Polish with green pad
9 - Wipe car with IPA
10 - Jewel with blue pad (micro finish polish)
11 - Apply Sealant with black pad
12 - Hand apply wax

However if you want to do ceramic coatings then you need to stop at 10 and hit it with IPA again to prep the surface for the coating. For a full correction you are looking at 15 or 16 hours. When I do a job I charge $150 or so an hour but I dont do many cars anymore (Maybe 3 or 4 a year) and instead send them to my detailing friends.

When it was all said and done...mine took 30 hours start to finish......

My current process is...

1: Spray the car down to knock off any grit..
2: Wash with Mothers Carnauba Wash and Wax using a microfiber towel..
3: Use a leaf blower to blow off excess water...
4: Use "The Abosorber" to dry off the car
5: Spray Meguaires Ultimate Waterless Wash and Wax and wipe with a fresh Microfiber Towel..

This method prevents water spots and adds a nice protection to the paint. I have had great luck with it..
