Before I start, I will explain that I have tried searching this topic, and tried ideas, but unfortunately I now need help.

History: 94 ATX Car now has 200k, and trouble began after the car sat around for about 2 years with little use. The car had the CEL on and we knew it was most likely the O2 sensors. The car was parked one afternoon after an hour long trip, upon returning to the car, the engine would crank, but would not ignite. Pump would cycle, everything sounded normal, but no ignition. After it sat for about a half an hour it miraculously started, itt was driven back to the place, and basically parked without any attention.

Recently due to the need for shop work from a hail storm, and I have been attempting to get it fixed. I began with spark plugs, and had the codes read. At this time the car would act a little strange, from the initial start the idle would sometimes hold around 1200rpm. Codes called for a new O2 sensor, I changed both. Cleared the codes, and at last no CEL. Drove the car to work a couple times, about 3 days later, the crank no start issue happened again. Left the car overnight, came back the next morning, it fired right up. This is when I started searching for problems on this site.

From the trouble everyone else was having with this issue, I decided to blindly change the Cam Sensor, and clean the MAF sensor without checking the codes. At the time I didn't know that you could do it without special equipment, hence I just went for it. The car seemed to be working fine, took it on a big road trip, (without ever shutting it off) and I thought it was cured. But now again, once I returned the car to work it would not start, came back the next morning and it started right up. Now on the last trip home from work the car actually stalled as I was rolling up to a stop light. Just as I was getting ready to start motioning traffic around, for some reason it started right up.

I finally figured out how to read the codes last night, I checked them 4 times and all I get is 111. I did get a 522, but I think I had it in park, checked it all again and it was all 111. It blew me away. Should my next move be a crank sensor, or should I focus on fuel delivery? So now I am reaching out to you my brothers, if you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate any help, thanks.

It would be easier to check the fuel pressure at the lines before tearing the front end apart. :)

By the way, I also had a problem with my fuel pump relay (inside the CCRM) that would stall the car while driving and not start up until it felt like it, sometimes the next day. It also helps to bang the CCRM with your hand, as it frees up the relay from sticking.

with those symptoms, my next move would be a crank sensor (and full 60k if its been a while).

Most of the time when the crank sensor is acting in this way as described, while being the problem, the water pump is leaking onto the sensor. You can check the water pump for a leak. Short answers are not always the best in helping diagnose a problem.

Awesome, thanks. Does anybody have a recommendation as to which crank sensor they prefer. Do you get the most expensive, cheap, or should we be brand specific? Have you purchased one that didn't clip in and required re-terming?

As soon as I get a chance I will check the fuel pressure, I'm sure it is here somewhere, but I didn't happen to run across the range for the psi. I'll let you know what I find out, thanks again.

My Vulcan had the same problems. If I drove anywhere long enough to warm the engine up to operating temperature and shut it off, it would not start up again for 30-60 minutes. Replacing the fuel pump fixed that issue.

Strangely enough it didn't ever exhibit problems while driving. Maybe heat soak?
