UPDATE:
abs still bad, no ps, when I manually shift from 1-2-3 it's fast, but for some reason 1st is hard to get into, it doesn't always go in, maybe 1 in 5 times. Every other time it stays in 2. Ideas?

I don't understand. Do you mean the shifter physically will not go into first or first won't engage? Isn't this a new/rebuilt tranny?

As for ABS - you don't need it. Worry about it in the spring.

If I remember the power steering is speed controlled right? There is a way to set the power setting to a non speed controlled level. Do a search. Maybe someone messed with it. Reset it to normal. You are getting pump sound when turning lock to lock right? Like the pump is straining.

Wish I was closer. You have a garage!

you could also try when you stop shifting it in rev for a few seconds then shifting back to first and it will engage.

sounds for sure like a VSS problem since the PS is partialy controlled by the VSS telling the car when its going slow so the vaps knows what to do. the abs is sorta the same deal.

if it dont feel like its slipping when you manually shift then its the VSS. they are a bitch to change in the car from what i would guess since where they are located.

if i was closer to you i would offer to do the work for you since its nothing major but just a hassel. sorry on the luck and hope something gets worked out for you.

the shifter will moves it just has a hard time engaging. It is a rebuilt with a shift kit. I'm not worried about the abs either, I'd rather not have it but eh. Sounds like a vss then. I was going to get the codes today but I was too busy maybe 2morrow

Do you know you can get free ford service manuals for your car at www.fordcds.com? I am in the process of downloading and unzipping for the 93-94.

All this seem to tie into the VSS including the cruse control. I have never had this problem so I can't say from experience just from the trouble shooting in the manuals and what others posted on VSS and VAPS.
