My tranny is shifting really hard from 1st to 2nd for some reason, and only those two gears. Good ol' Bizzy says it might be that the VSS is disconnected.. What is the VSS and what do I need to do to find and connect it? -Fiske

It means variable speed sensor. It is on the top of the trans by the firewall and has your speedometer cable connected to it with a elect. plug with to wires going to it. Hope this helps.

I looked for it for about 10 minutes this afternoon, and I'll I found was the O2 sensor in the exhaust.. If anyone has a more specific description or is willing just to take a few quick pics of it, thatd be appreciated.

If you VSS is disconected or bad it will send a code, I believe it is 542. It is very difficult to see the VSS without being under the car.

The VSS connects to the tranny above the passenger side output shaft. An 8mm or 10mm bolt connects the VSS to the speedometer output cover. At the the other end of the VSS there is a plug just below the oil pressure sender, you should be able to see if this unplugged from above.

Hope this helps.
