VSS help?

I have a 93 ATX SHO and either I blew the 3rd and 4th gear or my VSS is messed up. I ran the CEL codes and no luck for the VSS codes. I got a 3rd and 4th gear failure. I was wondering if there is a way to check the VSS to see if it is inoperable.

Got Cruise control? If no, that is a tell tale sign.. jpshakeh

Never had cruise control since I bought the car but that was in november of last year. When I was jumping my car a week before my tranny messed up, smoke came from the wires that connect to the cruise control at the throttle body though. Is there a way that I can use a voltometer or whatever they are and check it that way?

Not really. The best way is by the indicators that I mentioned. Does the car downshift hard when you approach stop signs and stoplights? Another tell tale sign. If you want a writeup on how to do it, just let me know. I can get you one made up.

Well right now the car is sitting in front of the house cause of the blown rear main seal on the tranny. (no tranny fluid in tranny) So I'm trying to just test the vss to see if it is that. When I was driving with it messed up, I would be going and it would stick in 2nd, when coming to a stop light/sign it would start bucking like it was going from 2nd to 3rd and back and forth. While car was going it wouldn't shift into third. I wish I knew where to get a new VSS and put it on cause this really sucks. I need to get this fixed because I need to get away from my dad yelling at me all the time about crap.
