I see the posts for replacing the VSS, but I need to replace (or rather, install) the small piece of harness from the VSS to the main harness (I assume). The problem is, I can't find anyplace for the VSS to plug into. Where is the wire routed (plug on top of the VSS, 10" of wire, the a plug that goes....where?) This is on a wagon converted to SHO drivetrain. EVTM is no help on this one... TIA.

im not exactly sure what your looking for..
do you mean where do the wires go to like the computer or something after the plug part that goes to the VSS ?

whats the reason for replacing the wires anyways? your using SHO wiring harness and computer correct?

also its funny how many SHO wagons are being built or running around PA already.. not to mention PA was the birthplace of thumper :)

You did not mention which engine harness you are using.

The VSS harness section you're referring to runs from the VSS to the engine harness along the firewall. The takeout for the VSS harness is located in that engine harness below the takeout for the VAPS harness, which runs from the VAPS module under the dash through the firewall to a brown 8-pin round male/female connector near the firewall, above the VSS.

The harness connector for the VSS is a 2-pin connector, and the wire color-codes are DG/W (VSS signal) an d O/Y (ground) for all 94-95 Taurus models.

The DG/W harness-lead provides the actual VSS signal used by both the PCM and the VAPS module for the 3.0L SHO, and the PCM, VAPS, and Speed Control Amplifier for the 3.2L SHO.

For the MTX - the DG/W lead goes into the engine harness to Splice S143, which splices to leads for the PCM and VAPS. The O/Y lead goes into the engine harness to Splice S109, which splices to leads for the PCM, VAPS, and Ground G103.

For the ATX - the DG/W lead goes into the engine harness to Splice S143, which splices to leads for the PCM, VAPS, and Speed Control Amplifier. The O/Y lead goes into the engine harness to Splice S109, which splices to leads for the PCM, VAPS, and Ground G103.

Color-code Key:

DG/W - Dark Green / White stripe

O/Y - Orange / Yellow stripe

Wow...lots of PM's. It is an ATX, the engine harness and the harness that follows the radiator support were both swapped intact with no cuts. No ABS computer, or related hardware, and no cruise control as yet (the unit was damaged in the donar car, so I left it)...otherwise, if it bolted to the cradle, its in the wagon now.

Harrisburg? I get up there from time to time...45 minute drive. I'm trying to get this car done for Carlisle, but we'll see. All I have left is the shifting problem, AC lines, and...hey, that's it!

OK, now I feel like a real *******. Problem just solved. The TPS plug has a portion broken off, so it can be plugged in either way... and, you probably guessed it...it was plugged in upside down. Shifts perfect now...but I lost the tach signal, and my check engine light came on. Guess I'll have to scan it in the morning...but it felt good to run it through all the gears.
