Vortech Issue

Its time for me to fix the SHO, It has been resting gently in my shop for about 3 years...

My major problem is that the head unit makes an completely unhealthy sound when I spin the pulley. My fear is the impeller hit the casing (if that's possible..) The sound itself sounds like bad bearings.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I would not even chance running it. Pull it off and send it off to get rebuilt. You have a few options. Send it to Vortech or one of their approved vendors to get rebuilt at the price of 800+ Dollars. Or, send it to 928 Motorsports and have them do it for half the price (and shim the impeller while they are at it).

I myself had my Vortech Rebuilt at 928 Motorsports. I was very happy with the results.

Thanks Sam. I will definitely look into 928 Motorsports. I parked the car as soon as I figured out something was amiss and have no idea how long it was running in its present state before I caught the odd sound. I then parked it in disgust and it has sat for three years.

That was the smart thing to do. Last thing I would want to see happen is the blowers internals making it's way through the charge piping and in to the throttle body. With that being said, send it off and get it rebuilt. Change oil, change the gasoline and fuel filter and it should be good to go!

Thanks for the link to 928 Motorsports. I went through the site and it looks like that's the place to send the unit. Ill pull it off and ship it out. And when that's getting dealt with, I can start the paint prep, its rust free and relatively straight. A new coat of Titanium should freshen things up.

Make sure that it is packed extremely well. 928 will literally re-use all of your packing material. It also wouldn't hurt to cover up the impeller and the outlet. Good luck!
