Well I am currently at college with no lift and no tools so... I took my SHO to a shop in town to take a look at the shaking problem.

About 400 miles ago I developed a shake under power in all gears but most noticeable in 2-4th. He took the car for a drive and looked at it on a lift with tranny engaged on both sides. Only noticeable thing was a loose ball joint which he doesn't think would cause a violent shake like that.

He believes it is one of the cv/halfshafts. I replaced the right side about 3000 miles ago and had a shop replace the left side about 15,000 miles ago. Both shafts were rebuilts NOT NEW.

Any help would be appreciated. I had new outer tie rod ends and alignment/balance about 300 miles ago.

All I can say is you might be on the right track, my parents own a Volvo 850 and a couple of months back the thing felt like it was absolutely gonna shake itself to death (got worse under power, just like what you're describing) and the cause was mostly the CV joint (there were other problems, but that was the big one). Good luck...

You should also check out your wheel bearings. The easiest way is to just put the car up on jackstands and try to wiggle the wheels, see if they have any play in them. Hopefully it's wheel bearings as I believe those are cheaper than new cv joints.

I tried moving the wheels but they both seemed pretty tight. I couldn't get any play out of either of the bearings and I had a lot of leverage.
On the good side I think I still have warranty on both cv shafts :) too bad I will have to do the work.
