Such a joy to get the point-by.

Slowly chipping away towards my goal of a 1:30 at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit. Considering I’m on well used 235 street tires, I’m quite happy with the performance of this SHO. I have never been quicker around Hallett in any SHO, including my stripped track only 89. For comparison, here are the lap times from my past SHO’s:

1:40
1995 3.0 with cams/bolt-ons/IPT coilovers/quaife/Baer 13’s on 17x8/245 R compounds

1:38
1995 3.4 with cams/bolt-ons/SS coilovers/quaife/C5 brakes/G3SF on 17x8/235 street tires

1:34
1989 3.0 with cams/bolt-ons/coilovers/brakes/G3SF on 17x8/235 R compounds (Gutted track SHO, sub 2800lb)

1:33
1994 3.0 with Vortech/bolt-ons/coilovers/WaveTrac/C5 brakes on 17x8/235 street tires

Here is a little video of me passing some Mustangs, followed by my new PB lap.

And some of those passes were with an extra 170? pounds in the right seat! Cool. Nice progress.

I also noticed you seem to late-apex most of the corners. Is that a technique that works well for the SHO setup? I've mostly used that with smaller mid-engine car. Just curious.

Fun to see! I got to drive Hallett at the SHOklahoma convention, hmm, was that like 2004? 2002? I ferget. I know I put the dash clock in timer mode but do not remember what times I was getting. It was 108F that day and muggy. I drank 5 quarts each of water and Gatorade between noon and 5 p.m. and never had to go drain any, that's how much we were sweating. But I wasn't missing out on a track day after driving all that way.
As far as late apexing, my approach with the SHO was that I knew that the car doesn't handle like a Miata, so getting the car straightened out a little sooner for application of the loud pedal seems to be the way to go. With the fronts doing all of the work you have to uncrank the wheel some before getting on it, particularly if you don't have an LSD. So you have to have most of the turning already done. In the words of a racing buddy,"Remember to late apex, but do so as early as possible!"

Yep, basically FWD does not like acceleration while the front tires are pointed anywhere but straight. Something I had to "unlearn" when I ran AWD, and now a RWD.

As others have pointed out, a number of the slower corners have me spinning my wheels if I’m too early with throttle application. Plus I think I just feel more secure with a late versus early apex. I know that the key to getting my sub 1:30 here is going to be finding the nerve to apex earlier on 2 key corners (1 and 9)
