Under hard acceleration in second gear I am feeling vibration. More pronounced going uphill. Doesn't feel like tire chatter/hop. CV?

125,000mi. but well maintained.

Need more information (NMI). Second gear of an MTX or ATX? Have you checked the condition of at least the front motor mount? Could the exhaust system be contacting the body?

Thanks Scott. It is a MTX. I only notice the vibration when I am going at it with my foot to floor. Seems to happen only during a substancial torque output. A reasonable forward run is smooth. I haven't noticed it in third gear or above. Definately not exhaust contact. I will check the motor mount.

Whitefish,

I've been waiting for more replies here because I have the same symptom, except I even get the vibration under mild acceleration (torque) conditions. The only time I don't get it is if I take off slow and easy. We all know that's no fun in a SHO! I haven't been driving the car much due to other issues, but I've ruled out the inner/outer tie rods/tie rod ends. Subframe also seems to be solid, and I've toyed with the alignment with no effect. The RH ball joint seems to be slightly worn, so that is what I'm suspecting at this point. Let me know if you find the problem.

Bradman, listen to Scott and check your motor mounts also, I'd highly doubt that a bad ball joint would cause that bad of a vibration that you'd feel under moderate acceleration. What did you check on the subframe? Did you check the condition of the bushings and you might want to check that they are properly torqued.

That really sounds like a motor mount issue to me. Pop the hood, apply the brake (hard), and let out the clutch to the point where it starts to engage. If the engine moves around in the engine bay (more than 1/2 an inch) then i would suspect a faulty motor mount. Good luck!

Per the www.shotimes.com site motor mount failure would indicate play of and inch or more not a 1/2 inch. If you only have 1/2 inch of movement you probably already have reinforced motor mounts, and don't have a problem there! :) Just don't want to lead him to a false motor mount diagnosis.

I had similar problem when I had my 89 SHO. I replaced the cv cause I had two torn boots. Well about 300 miles later I got a horrible shake at certain speeds, accelerating, etc. Was real bad around 65 was less at 80.

If you know for sure its not your brakes, wheels out of balance, tie rods are good, I would suspect the cv.

Hope that helps.
