Very disappointed in Livernois

I purchased my AirRaid intake and SCT Tuner w/tunes from Livernois for my Lincoln MKS.

I am ready to do my next round of mods, including downpipe, methanol, and 3 bar map sensor. I figured I'd start with the 3 bar sensor and new tunes.

So I emailed Livernois and told them I wanted to swap to a 3 bar map sensor and asked them how much it would cost, if anything, for them to send to me new tunes for the 3 bar sensor.

This was their reply:

"Hello, we do not offer 3bar tunes or support meth tunes with the SCT"

Nice. So I bought a tuning device from them a few months ago and now they won't support it. It's essentially worthless. Couple of canned tunes and you're done. Can't use it to upgrade to a new map sensor. Can't use it to get a tune to run meth.

Definitely know who I WON'T ever buy another part from ever again.

Looks like I'll be buying my downpipes from PPE or Stainless Works, my 3 bar map sensor from Torrie at Unleashed, my thermostat from Torrie at Unleashed, my meth kit from Torrie at Unleashed, and getting all of my tunes from here on out from Torrie at Unleashed.

Thanks for nothing, Livernois.

That's the way it is. They make no secret about the fact that if you want to upgrade tune for particular mods, you need to go with the MyCal.

I can offer you either PPE or Stainless works and meth kits, thermostats and more.
I highly suggest Torrie, he's an awesome guy. I can give you a package on DP, meth kit, thermostat if you want.

I sure wasn't informed of that when I bought my SCT from them last fall.

Oh well. The tuner itself isn't wasted. Just the tunes. Wish I would have known that from the start. Could have saved time and money and gone with Torrie to start with.

But I guess I'll just get everything from Torrie from now on.

Lesson learned.

Just received and installed my Torrie tunes...extremely satisfied with not only the result but the support is excellent. I'm beginning to wonder if he ever sleeps...I've gotten responses to my emails at all hours of the day/night.

Sorry to hear. Where are you at in Kansas?

Overland Park.

And I'm sure Livernois doesn't really care, but it's not like I'm a stranger to spending money modifying a car.

I had Peter Farrell and XS Engineering build my FD3 twin turbo RX-7's, had Sound Performance do most of the mods to my big single turbo Supra, and had Underground Racing do the full motor, heads/cam, blower, AEM, etc on my Viper.

Once I find a tuner for a car that I trust, I generally end up turning them loose to do the full build and then stick with them forever. But if someone won't even send me a lousy tune file for a 3 bar map sensor (which I know is possible because Torrie can do them), then why would I have them build a motor, install bigger turbos, install the water/meth kit and everything else?

I'm sure they're plenty busy so they won't miss the potential $10,000+ I could have spent with them on this project.

Glad I found out now, rather than later.

I originally had the SCT. I upgraded when the MyCal came out only a month or so later. It was well worth it.

I am sorry you feel that way. I am a bit surprise the LMS even offer a SCT device last fall. As I have had the MyCal tuner for nearly 2yrs. And it was a well worth it trade up, picked up another 50hp going with the MyCal meth tune over SCT. Hopefully some one from LMS will get wind of this thread and make it right for you.

JohnnyBravo, I feel your pain but by last fall their website was pretty clear about the advantages of the MyCal. Even so, like you, I would have expected them to discuss the differences with you and encourage you to go with the MyCal - especially in view of your plans for future mods.

I love my LMS tune but, like you, I am also a little disappointed. I bought the SCT and tunes in December of 2012 when the website did not indicate any HP advantage to the MyCal. I was told that unless I was going to run meth, the SCT would give me the same tune parameters as the MyCal. By May of 2013, it became clear that they could do more with the MyCal - whether you ran meth or not. My request to upgrade to MyCal for a better price than full retail was ignored.

Again, I love my current LMS tune but it is probably more logical that those like you and I work with Torrie if we want to take our cars to the next level. He continues to evolve his tunes with the SCT. We also need to keep in mind that technology moves forward and any electronic device can be made obsolete by another. My understanding is that the SCT X4 will replace the X3. As Dave said earlier, that's the way it is.

I don't believe the MyCal tune from Livernois with Meth will make any more power than a Torrie tune with meth on SCT.

I'm not trying to start a flame war. I'm simply stating my recent experience with Livernois. I've never purchased a product from a tuner and had them tell me they simply won't support it anymore. Especially when it's only been a few months.

It's not like they CAN'T make a 3 bar tune for it. They simply WON'T. That's aggravating to me.

So I'll just find someone who will. No big deal. And from now on, I'll use the person that is most responsive and most willing to work with me. And that doesn't appear to be Livernois. They appear more interested in locking a customer in to their proprietary MyCal (which nobody else uses), than actually providing the customer service I was looking for going forward.

I am sorry you feel that way, but we are a company that continues to develop and release new items for our customers all of the time, even if it means moving away from a product we used to use. The industry evolves, and in this case, outgrew the old offerings. The parameters we need to properly tune the car at these higher levels just do not exist outside of the MyCal. There is no reason for us to add complexity and another product if we could have done it with something else out there. We refuse to "make do" with something if we know we can come up with a better solution and product.

This was a road we started going down many years ago. Rather than relying on an outside company to make us software, we brought all of the development in house to improve delivery times, offer platforms no one else can, before anyone else, and ensure that we were properly modifying the correct parameters. We have offered an upgrade program for our customers that bought an SCT device from us to move to the better tuning for some time as well.
