So I have the classic whistling noise around the fuel tank area when I shut off the car and sometimes gas fumes. I checked the vauum line that comes down from the engine near the intake area (it goes to a little round canister thing at a T near the radiator). It was noted from other posts that I should check this. The other side of the T has about 3" of vacuum line....just hanging there not attached to anything. I'm sure that's supposed to go to something right?

Wondering if that's my issue or if that's 1 of 2 issues I have. I'm aware you can buy a new vapor canister for about 50 bucks, but I thought it was on the passenger side of the car though and this thing near the radiator is a solenoid. Confused here.

The vapor canister is on the drivers side of the car, right in front of the drivers side wheel (behind the well cover). That is supposed to be connected to that 'T' fitting by a vacuum hose that routes up around the headlight and back down to the bottom of the radiator.

I'd make sure your 'T' fitting isn't clogged. That is a common problem. Just need to get a paperclip or something of that nature to make sure it isn't. It has a built in reducer, so the hole isn't that big.

You also want to make sure that your solenoid is functioning properly. I had to buy a new one for mine...after approx 240k it stopped working. I bought a Dorman unit from Rockauto, and it had a Motorcraft part in the box. I was pleasantly surprised.

I have seen them clogged at the "T" section down below the radiator.

You guys wouldn't happen to know the size hoses that go into that T-fitting, do you? And if I could just buy some bulk vacuum hose to repair the old hoses?

the T goes to:

the intake via the purge solenoid
the vapor canister
the gas tank via the hard line that runs across the bottom of the radiator

one of those is apparently not connected if you have a line of 3" going nowhere.

you can use bulk vacuum hose - get stuff that is rated for fuel exposure.
