1pm Friday at work in the mall parking lot, some Ass!@%^ decided to break my driver window and steal my flip up tv headunit out of my car. I was sooo mad and plus i was supposed to drive to the beach that day.

So called around and its not cheap for a window place to replace the window. How hard is this job? I know you need a drill and a rivet gun.

That sucks man, Id rather change a door then a window, it's a real pain in the ass. I think I'm going to leave stickers on my door with my cell number, asking anyone who wants to bust out my window to please call me for my entry code. That way they get in anyway and get what they want but I get no busted windows.

that doesn't sound half bad. Not only did they break the window the tryed prying it open first i guess to stick something through to unlock it. So my molding are all bent up.

Remove the door panel, insulation pad and inner plastic water shield.
Power the window track down to access the 2 rivets.
Use a hammer and center punch to remove the steel inner pin.
Use a 1/4 drill to drill out the aluminum rivets.
The rivet may rotate with the drill bit.
If it does, use a puddy knife or screwdriver between the rivet and the bracket.
Remove the broken glass, rivet and the 2 part white plastic glass 'bushing'.

Install the glass from the outside of the door.
You'll need to tilt the front down to get the glass in the track correctly.
Re use the white plastic 'bushings' if needed.
Instead of rivets, use 1/4-20 hardware.
Bolt should be 1" long and use a nylon lock nut to secure.
Do not overtighten, or the glass will shatter.

Did I forget anything?

i dont think they broek the glass on purpose lol, i bet the caught the edge of the glass with the screwdriver... tempered glass is pretty strong head on but on the side its ultra weak... a smart tat with a screwdriver or in this case the prying motion against the edge would do the trick. sorry to hear about your troubles.at least its not the back glass :S i hear its like 700 bucks from ford.

Had something similar happen to me, but my window was broken because of a personal issue I had with a neighbor. Pick up another window at a JY and use Kevin (mrecoolgar) instructions. Windows are not SHO specific. Any genII taurus/sable window will work.

*EDIT* 1k posts :woohoo:

From any glass company! I bought a back window from the junkyard, and had a glass company install it for $100. The just use a generic moulding for the seal, and kept the original weather stripping piece around the outside.

No leaks, and it looks just fine!

A thought for the moulding...using a flat piece of hardwood (oak trim or something that'll fit in the window channel), place the wood in the channel and then use a hammer to knock the trim as flat as you can.

Now people know why I don't bother locking my doors or rolling my windows all the way up when I park somewhere. My cheap ass Wal Mart pioneer CD player's cheaper to replace than a window, and if they wanna go through that much trouble for that piece, they can have it. And aside from that, there's nothing else in my car worth stealing, unless they want my anodized blue shift ****....

If you have a hard rubber mallot you might want to try that. The hammer might take the paint off the moulding.
