Hi all,
got a question that is probably very basic to most of you, but bear with me. Since the SHO engine is an DOHC is it normal to be able to hear a slight ticking when the hood is up? I recently did a full 60K (my first, cars second). Had to change some shims, but nothing drastic. I didn't notice any difference in the volumn of the ticking compared to before the 60k. I guess I just want to make sure I didn't mess anything up since I'm a novice. Thank for help.

ticking can normally be the cam chains or tentioner.
its also possible the shims are outta spec but if you did it right then no worries.
but my money is on chain or tentioner.

I have a tick in one of my heads. It's from too much clearence between one of the valve buckets and the wall that it rides in, in the head. I tried looking for sleevs or something but couldn't find nothing. Compared to what the shop manual says, it's was just barely within tolerance. That was 35 000 km ago, it hasn't gottin any lounder so i'm not too worried.

I've never heard a SHO motor that didn't "tick" to some extent, and all had their clearances checked out on all 24 valves.

No matter how perfectly spec'd your valvetrain is, when you start slapping cam lobes onto valve buckets at thousands of RPMs, you're bound to hear a ticking sount to some extent.

Unless it really sounds out of the ordinary, I'm sure it's fine. It's normal to be overprotective of your baby!

every engine makes some valve noise, but personally with my 3.2 heads they were a little noisey but not i got the 3.0 heads on they make no noticable noise. all you hear is the exhaust

If unsure , have a camera (digital) and record it in action , put it here so we can give a yes or no.

Online diagnosis is already very hard , not hearing it , its impossible to tell.

Don't have a digital camera. My tick isn't nery loud. I can't hear it unless I pop the hood and stand up front. Next, rod bearings and I should be up on all the maitiance stuff.

Most ppl that never heard a knock , would say its a tick, Id be carefull.

I dont want to scare you off , but i dont want you to run it if its a rod knocking while you think its a tick.
