ohio is for hustlers
It doesn't work like that. There are different shim sizes, and just because you take out a 2500 (for example) and put a new one in doesn't make it ok. You absolutely must check to make sure each shim is in spec. Sometimes you can take a certain size out, put a new shim of the same size in and end up out of spec on the low side. This is one of those things that is just plain tedious; do it right or don't do it at all.

The shims come in all different thicknesses - it's not a 1 to 1 replacement. You need to measure the gap, compare to what the gap is supposed to be, and calculate what shim you need to make up the difference.

It's not terribly hard, just a little time consuming & intimidating. Good luck!

Yeah, you have to remember the shim isn't the only variable in the equation. There can also be cam lobe wear, etc that can account for a bigger gap.

Yes it is a tedious job, but would you rather do it or pay ford $1500+ to ***** it? Plus when you do it again in another 60K mi you will know what is going on in the engine. I just used the wisdom off of www.shotimes.com
