Usually valve seals come with a thin piece of plastic to put over the tip so there's no possibility of tearing the seals on install. What do you guys do, hope for the best?

I have more than one set of seals and neither came with that plastic sleeve. If anyone knows of a set that does come with it, i'll buy it just for that.

just so you are aware - valve stem seals are relatively unimportant on the V6 SHO motor due to the way the shim buckets cover the top of the valves. I have taken apart engines where the exhaust valve stem seals were completely missing and those engines didn't burn more than a quart in 1500 miles. Whereas in a ohv engine, that situation would require one to add oil almost every day. so even if you nick one of the seals on install, don't sweat it.

Thanks guys.

I bought the fel pro ones real cheap if it stops me from adding two quarts of oil it's worth it. I barely noticed a difference in oil consumption in the past from new seals, so I agree.
