I have had my 93 ATX SHO for almost a year now and I just got up to 163K miles today. I had a 60K service done on her and she ran better, but I had a FORD dealer do it. When they told me all that it included they didn't say anything about the valve adjustment. I know this is very important if you don't want to invest in another motor. I will call and ask them was the adjustment performed, but if not I would like to know 2 things.

I live in Detroit, MI and there is ALOT of repair shops EVERYWHERE here, but for some reason when you mention valve adjustment for a SHO they act like you asking them for world peace. I would like to know are there any mechanics in MI that anyone knows of that perform the valve adj.? My other question is that what are the symptoms that your SHO is in desperate need of a valve adj. because the previous owner went 150K miles w/o doing so?

Clicking and clacking (not Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers) under the valve covers indicate a desperate need for the adjustment (if it's not too late already).

Otherwise, it's just a general degradation of performance caused by sloppy valve operation.
