does anyone know if the countour v6 bellhousing is the same as what we have on our V8's? i would love to know...

i believe the contour flywheel fits without a problem, so why wouldnt the transmission?

did he put the transmission into the car?

i would rather use the mtx75, due to it being allegedly stronger than the ****** mazda trannies.

FYI the MTX in the Mazda 6s is stronger due to being built for a 221 hp V-6. Plus IIRC I think he has a warranty on it. Reason enough for me to put one in!

Let's say I've been there...

I am the one that is working on this. Current tranny I am focusing on for my reasons is the A65M-R out of a 2003+ (IIRC) Mazda 6S. There are rumblings of others that are working on it, but I haven't seen any real evidence of it (or any sharing of information like I am doing here as this is something that these cars need in my opinion)....

However if you want to use the MTX-75 PM me, I've got lots of goodies for you.....

I know the MTX-75 was going to require cutting a sizeable chunk out of the drivers front framerail, and may have affected turn radius even... Jury is still out on the Mazda tranny, but it looks like I won't have to take out as big a chunk or may be able to just heat the frame a bit and pop it out a tad...

The MTX-75 will be trashed pronto if you leave the stock diff in there. the ratios are also a tad short for my tastes (third gear will be done at about 91 with stock tires / wheels) with the Mazda Third is good just into three digits (assuming 7,000 Redline).

as soon as i get another car to drive i will be starting progress on this. have you thought about using a 99 mustang cobra ecu for engine control? seems like it would work with a little bt of programming. but i guess the sho computer can be hacked also, so who knows.

i have seen pictures of the v6 in a 3rd gen, but i guess they could have used an auto tranny with it.

venom, i will share what i can with you when i start this up. i know people in the fiero community make bellhousing adapters, so i dont see why it would be an issue to make one for this.

With the A65M-R... I have a machinist making a custom midplate to go betwen the Block and tranny. I don't think it woudl really quaifly as an adapter plate. His contact info will be public once I have a car that works, people can deal directly with him at that point - I am NOT getting into the parts business long term (especially as a middle man).

Doug Lewis says that a tuner will handle the changes for the PCM, so I will stick with the stock PCM for now, however a 99 Cobra PCM did cross my mind (8 cylinders, Coil On plug, IMRC, and MTX). The problems that would arise from speed input (from ABS) and such would be some tricky issues with the cobra PCM, so we will try the tuner route on the factory SHO PCM first.

thats EXACTLY what i was thinking with the cobra ecu. and also, it appears that the cobra has some sort of fuel pressure transducer on the fuel rail that i dont believe we have. maybe for fuel pump variation or something?

the cobra ecu does look rather tasty for this swap, although, its not a firewall mount unit like ours....

what is the cost of that midplate? is it possible that you could have 2 made at the same time so i dont have to wait? i will pay of course....pm me about it.

Removing the ATX functionality out of the PCM via the SCT programming is not terribly complicated, so there is really no reason not to use the stock PCM, harness, etc.

ok, now that that is settled, what about pedals? what did you use ven0m?

seems that maybe the earlier sho setup could be stuck in there and a master cyl. retrofitted to it would work....

I'm using a Contour pedal set, it is unknown at this time however if the Contour clutch master moves enough fluid for the Mazda's slave however.... Ref here:

http://www.venom.org/shofiles/Project_rowboat/DSCN3260.JPG

That is the left side of the contour pedal sled welded onto the left side of the G3 pedal sled. Lengthen the bolt and add some bushings to connect the countour clutch pedal and you get:

http://www.venom.org/shofiles/Project_rowboat/DSCN3264.JPG

Which looks like this in the car:

http://www.venom.org/shofiles/Project_rowboat/DSCN3268.JPG

Now it really isn't that simple in some respects. In order to have space for the clutch pedal you will have to move the underdash fusebox a significant amount. I took the approach of moving the GEM off the back of the fusebox and stuffing it up under the steering column as all the GEM wire harnesses will reach there (took about 2 hours with some wire and the soldering iron) Ref here:
http://www.venom.org/shofiles/project_rowboat/DSCN3209.JPG

That will give you enough space to the left to SQUEEZE the pedal assembly up there with the Contour master already bolted on (gotta hack the firewall for the hydraulic lines of course). after you fasten the fuse box up higher and aft after some adjustments to the mounting bracket of course.

Since the G1 / G2 cars are cable actuated clucthes I didn't see a good way of rigging it... Pedal length with the 'tour pedal seems almost perfect.

Well gee... I don't know, I was thinking of using my cordless drill on one of those transfer pump thingies...

WTF are you talking about? Why would I change fuel pumps since I am changing trannies? It is still a 7,000 RPM measly lil' 3.4 the injectors will be feeding.... Still only about 235 HP gross, I hope it to be closer to 200 net to the wheels than the slushbox cars however...
