I got a 2015, can you charge a cell phone with the USB port in the console? If so, does anyone use it to charge their phone?

Yep all the time. Use it to charge my gym headphones too. Works okay. Will keep your phone alive while using gps.

As a small note, sync Gen 2 amperage output may not be enought for some newer smart phones and your phone will discharge when in use.

I can't stand that every time you connect your phone Sync2 autoplays songs you have downloaded on your phone (at least with iPhone) and always starts on the same damn song. Anyway to change this autoplay, a setting perhaps?

I did notice this on road trips using nav on my phone it will still lose charge while plugged in. After upgrading to SYNC3 and the newer USB hub it's no longer an issue.

Really wish there was a way to increase amperage out of the Syc2 USB port. I tried a reverse Y cable with only power coming from a higher amp cigarette lighter plug and data only to the Sync2 USB but apparently iPhone negotiates power from the data side to avoid too much amperage and it didn't work.

I talked to a mechanic I know at my dealer and he looked it up for me. Sync2 USB port, 5v and 2.5A. I called Samsung and they said that'll be fine for charging my phone. Just wanted to make sure.

I'm pretty certain that Sync2 is .5A. Definitely not enough to charge while using OBD Fusion and Waze.

I have heard the same .5A. The SYNC3 USB hub made a noticeable difference.

I know this is an old thread, but this answers the question as to why the USB port in the console is essentially a trickle charge to my iPhone 14. Not sure if I’m going to do the Sync3 upgrade in my 2015 but I will just get a cigarette lighter USB charger in case I’m in a pinch and needs to charge the phone quickly. Any recommendations on a good cigarette lighter USB charger? There’s just so many available.
