What year do you have? There would be a lot to change for a 2010-2012.

I don't know anything about this company but they're offering a kit that claims you only have to swap the screen and USB hub. So I'd think the same would be true if you have a stereo from a donor car.

Yea i know about. I can’t justify paying that much for Apple car play. I would rather just buy upgrades turbos lol

Me too. I've got the crappy MyTouch and I've spent more hours than I'd like to admit trying to figure out how to get Android Auto. Best I could come up with was a reverse mode hack or replace the whole thing with a generic Android head unit. So I just BT my phone and use a dock.

Right that’s why i ask about just trying get the head unit. I seen a 2016 head unit on eBay but was wondering if it would work

That's why I sent that link. There's a video of them changing the head unit and USB portin an SUV. I assume the same would work if you bought a used one from another car but I'm not aware of anyone that's tried it.

The sync2 to sync3 upgrade is pretty easy and only cost around $450-$500 if you find a used screen+APIM. I put a 2017 sync3 unit in my 2015 sho. One of the best mods I've done. Used forscan to program it. Android Auto works great. Waze on the 8" screen is awesome. Climate controls are better. I love it. I did have to replace the USB hub and install a new gps antenna in the dash.

Just do research before spending money. There are differences in screens. For example, the 8" screen from an F150 is not a direct swap for the taurus 8" screen. I made sure to get a screen and APIM from a vehicle with nav and Sony sound to match my car.

I thought the apim and the screen was one piece ?

The APIM is attached to the back of the screen. Some junkyards separate them. I wouldn't buy them as separate pieces. I only looked at screens that had the APIM still attached.

I just upgraded my Sync2 to a Sync3 system 4 months ago. I purchased the complete upgrade kit from ebay via the seller called simplymichigan (428) I do not know them personally beyond buying the kit from them but the unit looked like new and everything worked great and was an easy upgrade. Only issue I had was that I had to drill 2 new holes onto the bezel mounting bracket to fit the thinner sync 3 module. Took 2 hours to install and 1 hour was just drilling and lining up the holes correctly. After the install the unit fits and functions perfectly. I am very pleased. This seller also preprograms to your VIN, verifies the unit worksand updates to latest software. Entire upgrade including the install kit with new antenna and USB console adapter was less than $750. Best ugrade I have done to my 2013 so far. Zero issues after 5 months.

If you had to drill your brackets, the screen was probably from a vehicle with different screen mounting compatibility.

See the 'screen compatibility' section here, to know which ones are a direct swap with a Taurus:

yep, I had to do this as well. I bought my screen/apim off eBay and it was advertised as being for a Flex, but ended up delivering and being from a Raptor. Took a little time to line up the brackets but nothing crazy.
