Upgrading the brakes... some advice needed AND given!

Blank rotors and high quality pads are in my future as a 2nd set, will keep the looks of slotted and red stuff pads for DD & shows.

Sounds good... though I'm now hoping it's easy to change out the rotors lol. (I've yet to do it... EVER!) ...oh, and thanks for the warning. I'd have dived into Track Night at Pitt Race with my slotted and red padded brakes and maybe come out with a heartache. So... thank you.

Carbon fiber brake setups will set you back a pretty penny for sure, seeing as they are not "hydrodipped" parts

If you don't see the make and model of your vehicle...

Good to know this too - I didn't even know they existed, but ...cool. Pricey, but kind of awesome.

Finally got my new brakes installed. EBC sport rotors and redstuff. Notice the little flourescent green "L" sticker though... I don't remember peeling those off NOOB!!! Oops... any harm in leaving them there, or should I lift the car again to remove some stickers? lol

So I ordered the PowerStop Z23 kit. On unboxing, I noticed that the vents weren't dead center in the rotor as you rolled the rotor around. One one side, where the lettering imprint is, it was dead center, with the "meat" of the rotor measuring 3/8" on each side. Roll the rotor 180 degrees, like it were on a wheel/axle, and on the opposite side of that same rotor, it was 5/16" on one side of the vent and 7/16" on the other side of the vent. WOW... not cool. This was on BOTH front rotors!! The manufacturer, when presented with the evidence, admitted it was a defect, and offered to replace them. (Pictures here if you want to see.)

OOOOkay... so get this. I purchased the PowerStop kit from AutoAnything and returned them for a refund, and purchased the EBC brake kit from them as well. I had already sent the brakes back (on their dime) and got my refund, it's already posted to my account. Late last week, when waiting for my EBC kit to arrive, a box showed up at my front door. It was replacement rotors for the PowerStop kit. I left them in the box, unopened, and just got around to calling them today to get those sent back to them. I never asked for them, so I have no idea how or why they came to me.

Anyhow, their customer service person was very nice, and took my information (including the tracking number) and did some research. She came back several minutes later and said, "Sir, I can't find this reship in our system. I appreciate your honesty, but I have no way to return them since it's not in the system." Score. OK, maybe not, never know they might call me in a few months haha... but wow. So, anyway, I decided to open the box - and guess what. The rotors were just fine. Unlike the last set, the vents were dead center all the way around. I guess I'll hold onto them for a while until they reclaim them or I need replacement rotors again.

Weird but weirdly true story. Enjoy it fwiw haha.

Those would be EBC Sport Rotors and EBC Red Stuff pads. EBC is in transition between coatings. I contacted them to ask why they were different, so they explained and said if I was in any way unhappy they'd happily to a full out exchange for the newer ones. (The coating on the newer ones is brake cleaner resistant.) They also had awesome customer service. Bar none. Very impressed!!

I just got done ordering my new Carbotech XP10 front pads for my SVTF. Next to Rock Auto for the cheapest solid rotors I can buy.

Anyway, Carbotech pads, IMO, are just THE way to go. and the favorite vendor of SHO folks and other is Amp D: http://ampdautosport.com/

The price for Carbotech pads are the same everywhere, so no discounts to be had. And stay with the Valvoline fluid. It is all anyone with a typical car needs for HPDE track days. You aren't running wheel-to-wheel for hours on end. If you boil Valvoline, you need to reevaluate your driving technique!

The yellowstuff pads are 131 for front set. Yellowstuff pads and these EBC stock like rotors are only 189.99 for the front and the pads and Free Shipping. So they throw the rotors in for 25 a piece and ship all this heavy weight for free. I only need the pads but at this price would I be wrong to do it.? They seem like an upgrade and the yellow pads sound too good to be true. Any opinions?

Yellow pads are track pads. They work great when warmed up, not so good when cold. Because of that, I don't imagine they'd make very good dailies.

Well, I daily red stuff, and even they aren't awesome cold. They warm up quickly enough I suppose, but they're much more of a street pad than yellow, so I wouldn't buy yellow for street use. Just saying.

Keep in mind too, that marketing is marketing is marketing lol. On EBC's site they now offer Green, Red, Yellow, and Orange. (There used to be no Orange.) The latter is their "full race" pad and is marketed as their best stopping pads... .which are arguably true. However, they also say "Effective from cold making this material street usable." That's the kind of language they used to use for their Yellow which used to be the top race pad.

So, yeah, any of their line are probably street usable to one degree or another. I'd guarantee though that the racier the pad, the more brake dust, the shorter life, but the best in high temperature... and arguably less effective when actually cold. Heading into winter... I wouldn't want to go better than Red Stuff, but that's my opinion. YMMV.

Hey, you can use an all season tire in the snow, but winter tires will probably outperform them all day every day. The right part for the application, IMO.

Interesting, I'll just stay with either the pp pad or hawk hps, the hps I've run on 3 different type cars and were great. I liked the redstuff but had issues with them and rotors. Redstuff longevity on my DD g8 gt was 10,000 miles. I looked at the yellow because of the reviews and the price as a set with the rotors. But I don't really need rotors. I got 26,000 out of the pp pads as a DD and they seem ok, but looking for a little better and I think hps fits that bill.......

....and now confusion sets in.....ok, I am going yo check some other forum reviews, not lightweight mustang but caddy cts v etc and see what they say. Again dust is no concern to me I wash my car twice weekly, summer or winter.....quiet better stopping with no hassles for 25,000 miles is what I want....I report back....

I only gave you my experience with the reds. To be fair, I've not used the yellows yet... maybe they're better than my reds have been cold. Honestly, shodded's opinion is worth twice mine as he was way more knowledge and experience.

Which is why I ran them exclusively, before having upgraded one giant step forward to the Wilwood's all the way around.

The EBC Yellow's served me INCREDIBLY well.
